Have you tried this?:

Navigate to this folder (assuming your Windows is installed on your C:\ drive):

C:\Windows <- Inside this folder you should find the file "explorer.exe". Select that and press "CTRL+C" (this will copy the file, do NOT cut, just copy).

Then paste the copied file into:

C:\Windows\System32

Go to "Scheduling Options" under the tab "Settings" in "Registry Backup" and click on "Delete Schedule" and then choose "Normal" and then click on "Create schedule".

Ok I See.

For "startup items loading" I myself use "Autoruns" it's only for "auto-start programs" it doesn't do anything else.
But as softpedia says in their review: " It is a very powerful tool, so only expert users should play with it. "

However, if someone else were to use it they would likely start computing before it opened. Would this be a problem for the backup.
Don't think so, "Registry Backup" will only take longer time to make a backup!
The worst that can happen is that the "Registry Backup" freezes, because there are too many programs that start at the same time.

I used Ccleaner and Revo to reduce the number of startup items  I am sure are not needed. I was told not to use msconfig.
If you use Revo Uninstaller your are removing the program.
If you use msconfig you only disable the autostart of the program, the program then still exists on your computer.

My processor is i5,  2.53 GHz.
My desktop i5 3.30 Ghz loads much faster so maybe the problem is the processor?
Desktop computers are often faster than laptop, but not always!
I think it's only natural that your desktop computer is faster than your laptop.
It also depends on the motherboard and several other components in the computer, not only cpu (processor).

I can't see something in the log that would explain why it takes so long time.
But if you run many applications at the same time, it takes longer for the Registry Backup to backup!
Could be that more programs are starting on your laptop than your desktop computer!?

HijackPatrol.log is a log file from the program HijackThis it's normal, the log file are usually saved directly in C:!

I have been thinking about one thing in RB, when I'm using "Task Scheduler(Auto Backup)" to do a backup and I use "Normal" option, I see that RB is doing a backup, but I can't see if the backup used "VSS" or "Fallback method".

I would like RB to wait 10 seconds or so before it closes down the program, when I have time to see the which backup method RB were using. Instead of open the RB and look there, takes time to open RB  and because I'm curious to see right away if the backup is ok. Since 1.4.3 the VSS backup have worked everytime but anyway.

You can look in Log_Vss.txt and Log_Backup.txt, there you can see how long time the backup took!
[2012-10-10 - 06:49:16] is the first time in my Log_Backup.txt this morning and the last time log is [2012-10-10 - 06:50:23]. So it took 1 minute and 7 seconds for me at startup.

If you notice that your laptop is slower than your desktop pc it could be that you have "Balanced" Power options on your pc. It also depends on whether you have the battery in the laptop computer or if you use the power cable.

You can take a look at this site: http://www.7tutorials.com/how-tweak-advanced-settings-power-plan-windows-7
In advanced settings: You can take a look at "Maximum processor state", for faster computer, you should choose 100%, but it takes more battery.
You can also look at "Graphics Power Settings" (Maybe your graphics settings is named Intel, Nvidia or Ati?)
It's the same here if you want faster computer you can choose "Maximize performance", it also uses more battery.

Peterr you ask good questions, so that others who need help with the same thing will find answers to their questions. All who post here helps in their own way!  :cheesy:

I have tried RB 1.4.3 since wedensday and so far so good  :cheesy:

I see that you have changed "Default Backup Name" to "Manual Backup" like that lol!

I had a anti-malware scan and a anti-virus scan to scan the computer at the same time I tried to do a backup, it took 12 minutes to do a backup but it did work!  :cheesy:

Very Well done Shane!

A swedish PC-magazine have written about Registry Backup(1.4.2) again, but they could have waited a week or so, until version 1.4.3 . But they seem to like it as they wrote about it again!

I have seen that RB using"fallback backup method" 3 times now and I have only 2 system restore points.

for your system the program is the shadow copy is taking longer than 60 sec to make the shadow copy. This was a change I made from the old versions.
Why did you do that change? what are the advantages?

I have Win 7 but the default is for Vista.
Should we leave it as is or change it to Win 7?
I think you can leave it as it is!

I am still looking for the text file.

If you want to find the log file, open "Registry Backup", select the tab "Restore Registry". In "Select Backup To Restore" choose the date that you want.  Then click on " Open Current Backup Location". There you will find 3 textfiles, but "Log_Vss.txt" is the one you are searching for.

Most programs when done with a shadow copy is suppose to get rid of it after. You have something on your system that isnt doing that.
Thanks for the info!

Ok I have deleted all the shadows copies and system image copies and there is none now, but then I do a backup in RB I see this in log_Vss:
Current definition: B: = \??\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy25.
I interpret it as there are 25 shadow copies?
But I have none then I look in system restore, how does that work?

But so far, so good, with making backup now!

I dont know if I want to delete the shadow copies I might need them!
If it works then I have to delete shadow copies now and then, does not feel so smooth!

Maybe there is somebody like me, having lots of shadows copies?

Or do you mean that I should only delete old shadow copies?

What is the disadvantage of having it as before, then the shadow copy didn't close at 60 sec?

When you start the program is the yellow text there saying it will use fallback method?
Yes there is usually a yellow text there saying it is using fallback method!

I also see in the Log_Backup this text:
[2012-09-20 - 16:14:47] Volume Shadow Copy Failed! vss_7_64.exe isn't running. Check the Log_VSS.txt file to view any errors.
[2012-09-20 - 16:14:47] Is vss_start.exe Running: True
[2012-09-20 - 16:14:47] Is vss_7_64.exe Running: True
[2012-09-20 - 16:14:47] Is vss_pause.exe Running: False

Quote
If it isnt and you manually do a backup does it fail and then use fallback?
And yes sometimes then I do a manual backup it uses the fallback method, but not all the times, sometimes it works at it should.
Quote
Right now I have the program wait 60 sec for vss, if it isnt ready by then it goes to fall back.
As I said earlier 1.4.0 worked for me, have you changed when the program goes to fall back method or something in 1.4.1 and 1.4.2?
Quote

I also noticed from the log that you have 70 shadow copies! I wonder if that might have something to do with it.
I have no idea. I let Task Scheduler make a "Instant Restore Point" every morning, but I don't think that have interfered with RB because I had it set to wait 30 minutes.

Did you try to rename your "settings.ini" to "settings_old.ini"? Let the program creates a new one.

No I will try that, thanks!

Yes in task scheduler I see "The operation completed successfully. (0x0)"
and I saw in Process Explorer that "vss_7_64.exe" was started.

In log file I get this: "Is vss_pause.exe Running: False"

VSSC is started.

I did a manual backup now and I got "Currently using fallback method instead of Volume Shadow Copy Service"
and if I take a look in "Process Explorer" I see that vss_pause.exe doesn't close.
