I just knew Shane and Ztruker would work well together -this is great!
I wish I could contribute; David has joined from across the pond as I noticed in the other thread.
I am happy he received my link.
He will also be of great assisstance.

Hi Shane
My friend in England would like to join the threads so I sent him a link.
He is MS MVP and a real solid person. He is the one who does software for the big London hospital with pcs and has been both a loyal correspondent. He has beeen a friend and a source of information for a long time.
I hope you two hook up as I am doing my best to accomplish that goal.
He was just telling me about virtual pcs so you can make errors and just remove the os. He would be a great attribute and a nice peson to know. He is a friend at MG with  Tim.

I'll be busy between my son's fervor for Google and Cloud and this new registry backup.
Thank you for that information and I am sticking with this and being polite to him.

General Computer Support / chrome os and registry
« on: May 25, 2012, 03:00:25 pm »

Hello
My son responded to the new registry backup that he uses the Chrome os which has no registry, just a sign in. It seems that all is in the clouds and he accesses his work and programs(no third pparty)with a password. Is this a viable option to Windows and the need to involve ourselves with a/v programs, imaging programs and the like. He says if anything  goes wrong with his machine none of his work is disturbed and can be acessed.
Anyone care to enlighten me. I have tried to read up on it but it is confusing to me.
Thaanl you
Peter

>Mine replaces everything. :-)
I really like this feature.

It will be a pleasure to show this around;some places do not like copy/paste nor direct references but I see nothing wrong with a link so others can share this new program. The average user, I always refer to, will more than anyone benefit from this because the other programs are within reach of the skilled users.

Once I return home and settle in, get my cracked filling repaired etc etc I will be looking for the tutorial/video.
I do not have an old spare pc so the family desk and lap are not to be messed with.
You have really tackled quite a feat which I am sure will be widely used.
Thank you for taking the time to update me.

I didn't think the article was correct, so thank you.
As far as me for a testor, give me just a bit of time.
A lot of irons in the fire right now, truly.
I'll be around and take it for a ride soon. I promise.

I just came back from changing my post at What the Tech and it reads a lot more encouraging.
I thought there would be no recovery tab working within the program and am really happy to know the progress you are making.
The recovery for the other 2 programs when you cannot boot into the program would need a tutorial for the average user. If yours is more straight forward that would be great.
This is like Volkswagons; making things for the masses to use!
I am shocked that any thing I have said has contributed; thank you for that.

I am sorry for taking up so much of your time. I hope you are not a hunt and peck typer like this 'ole bird.
I was reading about RegBak's recovery as well as ERUNT as I see what you mean; there is the "simple" recovery option but there is also the DOS involved option when you can't boot into the program.
I prejudged and will go to What the tech and just drop a polite little correction.
The beta program by definition needs trial and time. I guess i was abit anxious. I read all you sent but ingested about 80%.
Thank you again and i'll be around to see how it goes. Buenos suerte.

General Computer Support / reg backup
« on: May 24, 2012, 10:16:14 am »

I was surfing for a reg back up I found this article where the author says this will backup the entire registry for Win 7. To my knowledge this has never been used to backup the entire registry prior to Win 7 and I am leery about it doing so for Win 7.
Please let me know if this is true or not?
Thank you

Hi again Shane
I just heard from Ztruker in What the Tech about the restore issue requiring a linux cd or some botable media and copying files and do not feel this is something I or the average user would be able to do.
I do hope it will help others however.
At least I have Acronis and system restore which is pretty good.
From my end, thank you for trying and I can see where those skilled with pcs have a tendency to use devices non tech people cannot do, or do very easily.

Hi again
I will go there to see what I can do.
If I check defaults, will I have reasonable protction? I think most people like me do just that. However, if it is better to configure, I will learn to do so.
Hope you and Z are making headway;look forward to the video.

General Computer Support / Windows 7 Firewall Control
« on: May 22, 2012, 11:57:03 am »
Hello
I am using the Win 7 firewall that is part of Windows 7.
It seems it protects traffic one way. I was reading about a firewall named  "Windows 7 Firewall Control" which seems to protect two ways.
Is this the same as the one I have or different.
If different, which would you suggest for an average user who has a router.
Thank you
Peter

There is now some chatter about your program in What the Tech.

I was referred  to a link which they think is good yet I think it is your program.
I am not sure of this.
Ztruker has some comments you would be interested in. He said the portable version did not work and has comments about more of your work.
Maybe you should touch bases with him as he is interested and interesting.

Good for you - if nothing else I am honest.
I am off to see him blush.
I just defended the program in Win 7 forum.
A person posted,"Why bother with your new program when all you hav to do with ERUNT is run Win 7 as admin."
I referred him to this :                                     http://youtu.be/h26tfWJSvPg

Shane
I just read your statement about making the video as I was reading further about the program. I can't wait to use it.
Earthling is like that. Ask David Parry at MG's. David and I have had a few conversations as Earthling borders on rude and ascerbic.
Windows 7 did not like me mentioning it, but the other Windows seven seems ok with it.
When Parry tries it and your video is out I will jump in.
Your logic to make the video when it is finalized is sound. Again, why didn't i think of that?

HI Shane
I wanted to give you a brief update.
I have tried to spread the word but one forum removed my post and I am getting flack from others.
Tim's MG forum - one person quoted Tim that there is a new registry program at tweaking .com but not to use it as it is beta. Earthling(a mod) typically trashed the whole idea but he does that with everything.
I do not want to seem presumtuous but Britec created a great video/tutorial as to how to use Win 7 x64 with ERUNT and placed it in YouTube.
I know it is work but I wonder if you could do the same and let people know there is such a video.
It would be a great enticement.
Britec's was a step by step workaround and it was great. I can give you the link if you wish to see it.
Well I am putting the gloves on again.
Cheers,
Peter

I understand, and thank you.
I just left a lot of information about your new creation at the Windows 7 forum and with David in London. Waiting to hear from him.

Hi Frank
I am running Win 7 x64 and I think you can see the video I posted at this site. That is my referral.
I think it is exciting that Shane is creating his own version of ERUNT that will pick up where xp left off.

Shane
I changed it to remembr histery and it works fine.
The information is much appreciated;how come I couln't find it all this time?

That is the issue. "Import from another browser" is ghosted or gray and does not function leading me to think I need to adjust something. It is the same on both pcs.

Btw, is it legal, ethical and in good taste to send your program pik and some info to other forums and people I visit or would you prefer not to have me do that?

Looks sleek and straight forward.
I already wrote to David Parry and am waiting for a reply. He works with the Royal London Hospital among others to develope pc programs for opthamology so is very busy.
I hope to hear from him soon. I want him to be my guinea pig 'cause he is like my advisor.
I copied your pik and am going to send it to him and some others I know.
