Tweaking.com Support & Help / standard account and reg back up
« on: December 05, 2012, 06:48:24 am »
Hello
I think I know why the registry backup does not work in the standard user acount.
I just learned about the 3 types and to use the standard one to email and surf but make no changes. How do you handle this so you are not always logging back and forth to backup the registry with tweaking reg backup?
Should I install another reg back up from tweaking in the standard user so when I boot up in the am the reg is backed up or what?
Maybe there is an easy way to reconcile this.
Thank you
Peter

hello
I burned my Flip's MP4 video files to dvd and they played smoothly on Win 7. I tried it at my daughter's and one file at a time would play then stop requiring her to click again to play the next.
I have looked everywhere for an answer.
I wonder if safe mode would help or if the different os = Win 7 and Win 8 are the reason. The latter would be carelss of MS.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Sorry to bother you.
I kept working on it becaue all I had was one log which said 'variables'
After another reboot, the third one, the new porgram did its job - it seemed the new version took a while to settle in. Prior to that boot, there were all June backups. Now I have a December one.
Long and short is that it settled in and is working.
Thanx again.

Tweaking.com Support & Help / reg backup trouble
« on: December 02, 2012, 07:58:40 am »
Hello
I had to image recovery to get standard user account to work.
Then I needed to update the Tweaking reg backup so I installed over the .3 version to the current one. It would not work even if I deleted and created a schedule etc.
I then went to task scheduler and it seemd ok.
But when I booted it seemd quick so when I checked the only log, no vss, it only said "variables"
What should I do?

Hello
If I move from Win 7 to Win 8, how do I retrieve the bluetooth the assistant says is incompatible?
I read that you have to remove the programs/features the assistant finds incompatible. I need bluetooth so how do I upgrade the drivers  you recommend if the program is not even there?
I was told to upgread the BIOS but know it can be tricky. Would this help with compatibility and if so should I do it before upgrading?
Would an image of Acronis fix the pc if things went wrong?
Thank you

Hello
I did run the tester before and 6 items were flagged, secure boot being one. The ophers I could handle but i loose Bluetooth. Is there a way to retrieve it after the installation?
When I clicked on more information it said the download would stop telling me it cannot be installed. I don't know if it meant the secure boot feature or the Win 8 installation. I am afraid to get 1/2 way into it and have to try and reach MS during this frantic time.
Ztruker felt it is ok and he is pretty good as you know.

Hello
Does not having secure boot on my Dells mean that I cannot install Win 8?
If I can how do I do it so I still have a disc for future reinstallations?
I read not having secure boot would cause an upgrade to reject the upgrade.
I hope the $40 Pro is not ruled out.

You must have set the schedule to start the program minimized is all.

Sorry to be so dumb but how do I set it not to me minimized so I can see it on the screen.
If it is the three choices in the front of the program, mine is set to normal not hidden or minimized.

Thank you

General Computer Support / lost backups
« on: October 23, 2012, 11:39:47 am »
Hello
I performed a system recovery with Acronis and noticed I lost my Tweak restore points.
I checked my system restore and they were there. I guess the obvious is that the retore points were there when Acronis took its snapshot but for the date I picked, Tweak was not there.
I guess there is no way to retrieve them - is recuva possible?
Thank you
Peter

Yes, when I see the screen it takes about 40 secs before I see Tweak, which is fine; just wanted to be sure i was ok.
I understand your explanation.
Thank you for the information regarding a service pack. Wow! So soon -it seems i just fgot out of XP.

Please note that I said,"I use Revo and Ccleaner  features to reduce the number of startup items loading."
I did not remove any  programs.

I agree that desktop is probably faster and thank you.

Tweaking.com Support & Help / time to load
« on: October 21, 2012, 06:57:49 am »
Hello
It takes about 40 seconds for the registry backup to begin to load on my laptop which is not a problem for me.
However, if someone else were to use it they would likely start computing before it opened. Would this be a problem for the backup.
I used Ccleaner and Revo to reduce the number of startup items  I am sure are not needed. I was told not to use msconfig.
My processor is i5,  2.53 GHz.
My desktop i5 3.30 Ghz loads much faster so maybe the problem is the processor?
Thank you

Tweaking.com Support & Help / Re: splash
« on: October 15, 2012, 03:27:01 pm »
It did a backup and I used the wrong word I guess with splash screen. The program flickered quickly in front of me.

"Splash screens are typically used by particularly large applications to notify the user that the program is in the process of loading. They provide feedback that a lengthy process is underway. Occasionally, a progress bar within the splash screen indicates the loading progress. A splash screen disappears when the application's main window appears."

Now I learned a new term.

Hello
When I reboot for any reason, Tweaking.com's registry backup program splashes on my screen for a second.
I checked and it does not backup more than the one time a day it is set to do.
The timee it takes to perform a backup is now the same as the desktop about a minute and 10 seconds.
The splash is not a problem for me but I thought you would like to know just in case it means something to you but not to me.

Tweaking.com Support & Help / keylogger?
« on: October 13, 2012, 04:58:44 am »
Hello
This a.m. I logged on and after the reg backup was created I read the VSS file to check time which was good.
However, I have attached a file which shows that someone seems to have written something in my word pad as I was closing it. I meant to use paint which I eventually did but perhaps it was lucky I saw this.

Can you tell from the contents if I have malware?

Thank you

I think between the pc not being plugged in and my wife not waiting for programs to load you have found why it was slower than the desktop.
I have unchecked all but the necessary startup items. Thank you for your time and advise.

I attached the VSS that you referred to because it shows the time it took for the registry back up to complete.
I think it is 4 minutes. My desktop just did it in about a minute.

Please read the log and let me know if anything catches your eye as to why it takes so long.

Also,I saw an entry called HijackPatrol log - that would not be a hijacker would it?

Peter
PS I am sorry to tell you I made another error. My wife booted up the laptop but it was not plpugged in and she plugged it in after. I am sorry - that is most likely the reason why it took so long. i will try again.
