I will be reading about your links and thank you.
I always hope questions will in some way help others learn but I must admit sometimes I could be on a comedy show.
All is working well and this reg back up is a much needed program since Erunt ran out of gas.

I performed backup and restore this am and both ps took the same amount of time.
However, I tested the one time per day, so rebooted, and on each, the backup flashed but disappeared.
I then rebooted a third time and no backup program appeared.
I would say all is worlking well and I agree with you that Thomas is a great assett.
I wish I had the expertise to do the same.

Tweaking.com Support & Help / new registry update
« on: October 09, 2012, 06:43:32 am »
My desktop seemed to work quickly and successfully and the log file opend in MS Word.

My laptop similarly configured, took twice as long, appears successful yet the log file opens in notepad.

I have MSIE configured the same with Word being the choice under the program tab on both pcs. I do not see where I can make Word the default in the laptop.

Why would it take twice as long for the laptop with the same ram  and processor (6GB and i5) to backup but more importantly, how do I get the laptop to open the log file in Word instead of Notepad?
Thank you

I wanted to report anotherstrange occurance.
The automatic backup failed again so I removed it and performed a manual one.
During the manual backup it said,"It already exists."
I hope this helps to sort things out.

I hope I am sending this to the right place and that you want to hear about issues so they can be attended to.
I have attached a log file as the backup said,"Backup failed using backup method" or something like that.

Hello
When I logged on today, the process said 9/22/12 was deleted yet I only have 8 days of backups and am set for 14.
I hope the feedback is beneficial as I am not complaining.
Peter
Log attached

!!!!!!I take it all back as it dawned on me that there were 14 calendar days not logons.
It is doing its job well and I will change the days to 20 to allow for those days I don't log on one of the pcs.
I noticed Thomas had good to say bout the beta version. Will it be out soon?

I do not know what I am doing so I will wait for an update before I use the program again so I do not make any mistakes.

I am now worried about the past backups as to whether or not they will restore the registry completely.
I have to rely upon your ability b/c I don't understand all this.
Thanx

As u know I am not pc proficient.

I don't know which of the prnt scrns I sent you was what you requested.

You said try this new exe so I clicked on it and the screen jumped to another part of the forum.

I don't know what to do wih the failed backups and what version of the program to use?

I did see a new link so I am installing it as I think you want to see if the program works that way.

Tweaking.com Support & Help / registry backup said failed
« on: October 05, 2012, 10:40:46 am »
The last time this happend I was told to send a text file. I took a prnt scrn of the information under the particular backup that said it failed and hope this is what you want.

This is the sentence I found in the log backup,"[10/5/2012 - 1:33:55 PM] Volume Shadow Copy Failed! vss_7_64.exe isn't running. Check the Log_VSS.txt file to view any errors."

For future reference, when something happens, please tell me how to send you the information you need to make it easier for you.

**Sorry for all the modifications but the last attachment is a copy of the log file on a word document..

Hello Neroilo
Luckily I came back to do a search so I could ask Shane about an idea I have and saw your post that said I annoyed you.
If I did it was not on purpose but if you will let me know what I did I will be glad to apologize to you in public here on the forum. I try to be polite but am human and perhaps did something to offend you. Please write back. I am surprised I never got the thread in my inbox so it is good that I did this search.

HI Thomas
Thank you for your help.
First, I will leave the default as it is,Vista, although i have Win 7.

Secondly, now I know what Shane meant by log file.

If I had kept that particular backup, I would have had a text file to produce. Because it did not work as it usually does, I deleted it and performed a manual backup before realizing I could have taken a prntscrn of the text file.

Your driections were much appreciated as we low level users do not intuitively know what terms mean and where things are found. We need to be fed pablum like babies. :shy:

I have Win 7 but the default is for Vista.
Should we leave it as is or change it to Win 7?
I am still looking for the text file.
Thank you

When or if this happens again, if you tell me how to do that, I will.
This time, I deleted the backup and made a manual one.
I have it set to backup once per day at log on so please tell me how to post the  vss log.
I checked windows explorer and the original backup was there until I deleted it.
I thought for good recovery, the best thing to do was to remove the old and perform a new.

Tweaking.com Support & Help / startup trouble
« on: September 30, 2012, 06:21:42 am »
Hello
I booted up and the backup at log on seemed to be not working right and said something about falling back .
It seems as though a backup occured when I look in backup and under regbak but I had two questions.
1-What could I do to prevent  this from occuring again?
2-If I did a restore, would a full restoration of all of the registry  take place in as much as if it functioned properly?
Thank you

Tweaking.com Support & Help / Secunia
« on: September 25, 2012, 08:24:42 am »
This is the reply i received from Secunia;" I must say I am surprised you have installed it without contacting the vendor because it does not have a valid digital signature."

I ran the av program and am satisfied and further do not even understand wht he is referring to.

Btw, Does anyone have the same problem i have. Both of my pcs have stopped backing up at log on so I have no recent backups to restore from. I just noticed this.

« on: September 25, 2012, 06:49:47 am »
Hello
First Tweaking.com is now in the Secunia database and will be detected upon scanning.

Secondly, I installed the last update to Tweaking.com's registry backup and since I cannot see where it says to backup at  logon.
I have not had any backups since the download.
What should I do?
Thank you

Tweaking.com Support & Help / Re: Inclusion in database Secunia
« on: September 24, 2012, 07:50:27 am »
I tried to incude it in the database but can't figure out how to include the HTTP.
I sent an attachment along if you wish to do so.
After you run the scan you click to see programs then add a program and this box opes where you can enter the information.
I would do it if I could but after an hour i give up..

Shane
I did not want to do something without your approval and was not sure how to enter the HTTP required.
However, if you open Secunia ver 3 in the upper right corner there is a place to click on to "add a program". I think it means they will add your registry program to their database  - - that is if you want it there. I think it would be good advertising and exposure, but that is up to you.

If you install a program and there are leftover folders, can you run a registry restore like Tweaking.com's and go back to when the folders did not exist and therefore would not now appear?
