Shane,

I tryed your latest version of Tweaking to try and fix my issue. I keep getting error 643 in windows update. Also, when I make another user acct and switch user it shows the other user as "other" and when I login to that account by typing Username and PW. It says explorer.exe cant function when I try to access "my computer".

I am having serious issues and I do not want to format and reinstall due to the fact I have so much time and work invested into this install.

Do you have any suggestions on what I could do? Thank you!

-Layne

Sounds like some things are really messed up.

The best thing is a repair install. Where Windows will be reinstalled but all your programs and data will still be there.

What version of windows are you on?

I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit. How can I do that?

I attempted to upgrade my installation yesterday using the disc and it said cannot upgrade from 32bit to 64bit or from 64bit - 32bit?

Can u walk me through on how to install without losing my programs and files?

Thanks so much for your help!

Ok i will give this try when I get home! Hopefully this will work!

I think I understand now... the reason my disc will not work is because I have SP1 installed... And the disc does not have any info and/or is not upgraded to SP1... Does that make sense?

Try uninstalling SP1.

But first just follow the directions on that page. They do a good job of covering just about everything

When I highlight the Service Pack the uninstall option disappears but all other updates have the option to uninstall!

Wonder is slipstreaming SP1 would do it for you
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/145343-slipstream-windows-7-sp1-into-installation-dvd-iso-file.html

Or you may need to try and download a untouched iso image of Windows 7 with SP1. Not a hacked copy, you already own it, just the setup cd itself.

Ok I finally got the time to try this out.

With a disc that includes SP1.

It says "You cannot upgrade from 32 to 64" and it also says "You cannot upgrade from 64 to 32". And thats the reasons I cannot upgrade my installation and perform a repair...

Any solution?

Your on 64bit. So your disc should be 64 bit. When trying it does it give you a list of windows versions to choose from during the setup?

You need to choose the exact version you have now. Right click on computer and go to properties. What version of windows does it say?

I think you just have bad luck lol

I am not sure why this isnt taking. Did you slipstream the disk or get your hands on a standard one?
