restore falure on XP

(1/3) > >>

arturio:
Hi there.
I am using the tweaking program once a month on avarege.  Just to stay ahead of things.
Recently i was hit by some malware/virus which resulted in that i no longer can restore to an earlier date and, loading other anti malware/virus programs will not install. Sure i used the tweaking/repair program again but to no result.
I tried the recommendations as given by tweaking program to use Malwarebites, will not load, use Kaspersky TTDS, wil crash, use combofix, will not load, etc.
As my laptop with the problem is XP and seven years old, i do not have the XP disk anymore.
I have tried suggestions to repair online but no results. Certain files needed can not be found.
I know i can reformat but that is the last option, as will be buying a new laptop.

Any suggestion is most welcome.

Thank you
Arturio

Thanks for that Rick.  I wish i had that before my troubles started.  I will install and use, although it seems to be an after the fact thing. If there is a cure for getting at least restore points back, i would really appreciate.  Anyway, i will try and explore, and sure let you know my findings.
Thanks for the help.

I have installed and`run  FSGuard, as advised by Rick.

However, i can still not access XP restore points properly.  I can go to the restore section via accessories and system tools but i can not see the calendar.  A box says that i have no restore points.
The funny thing is that if i want to make a restore point, it let me do so, XP confirms the restore point has  been made, but, when i check there is no calendar.

Are there any more suggestions for me.??

Thanks
Art

Aha,  found it.    By desperately browsing for solutions i stumbled upon this.
http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/probably-best-free-security-list-world.htm?page=0,20

Went to page 21, "System Resque"  And there it was, a tiny program which i downloaded, run it and it repaired.  I can now see the calender again and choose restore points.
It was very simple afterall.

Just to let you know.

Cheers
Arturio
