Networking Files
atckris:
I have issues with two computers lately that something is affecting the networking files.
I end up with Invalid IP error 0.0.0.0 for address. WinSockFix is no help.
I can start the services of DHCP or TCPIP. In the Device Mgr/Hidden Items AFD.sys and TCPIP shows started but NETBT.sys is MISSING.
I have tried everything to replace the files in windows/system32/drivers and Netbt still does not show up and i can't start the two services (all others are ok)

Lets see if we can get this fixed, and if possible add the fix my Windows repair tool :-)
Can you post any screen shots of any error messages?

:-( I finally had to format and reinstall XP to get the system back to the customer.
But i did write this down...
When Starting the services of DHCP or TCPIP:
Could not start the "DHCP" Client Service on Local Computer
Error 1075: The depenency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion.
And if i ran:
Start
CMD
IPCONFIG /Renew
Error: The RPC Server is Unavailable
I hope this helps
Shane:
Missing reg keys.
Reinstall was your best option
While I want to add as many repairs as possible to my repair program I have to stay away from it adding reg keys. To many differences in peoples systems. And you go changing reg keys and your asking from trouble :-)
I own and run a computer repair business as well, so since your a fellow tech feel free to hit me up on anything you need. The more ideas I get the more I can add to my program :-D
I wonder if I should create a section where the services reg keys for each version of windows might be helpful?

atckris:
hmm, not sure what reg keys would be of use at the moment.
I generally dont "add" any, i delete ones from virus/malware.
I use "dial a fix" alot for XP, but they never made one for Vista/7 systems.
It usually cures all my networking and update issues, but what ever affected these two systems
no matter what i did could get any network to log on.
If i come up with something to add i will let ya know.
I've used the "unhide" non system files a few times that you have and it works great.
Thanks for all the hard work.
