Let me know how that repair install does. If it doesnt work I would still like to dig in to try and find the problem :-)

Once you've created the bootable disk, the offboot sfc only takes about 20 mins and if that doesn't do it then it will have to be the Repair Install.

If after booting up with the disk and has loaded the drivers, it doesn't take you to the splash screen, you will need to permanently change the boot order, navigate to the Recovery Environment - Restart then perform the sfc on the next boot.

Did an offboot sfc.

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

next step is the repair install... will wait for more free time for that one.

Strange.... - but hope you have better luck with the Repair install.

Don't forget to back up your Drivers folders in System32 as the ISO doesn't include any and then you will be able to drop them back in after.

Repair install shouldnt take very long. You are basically doing an upgrade to the same versions, so drivers, programs and all that normally get carried over, so you shouldnt have to reinstall much :-)


But since a lot of things do get carried over I want to see if it fixes the odd permission problem or not, so let me know how it turns out, if it doesnt fix it then I want to keep trying to fix it instead of a fresh install because if I can find a fix I can add it to the windows repair :-)

I tried the Repair/Upgrade option a couple of times on here just for the hell of it and for the experience and it took ages and to boot, it failed each time at the same spot and then I had to sit and wait while it restored from Windows.old - never did find why that was unless it's because this is an OEM build ?

Hi Shane,

I got myself ready this week-end to spend some long hours in front of my pc to perform the repair.
Decided to do one last thing before that and I am very GLAD I did !  :wink:
I decided to run the Windows repair aio tool one more time, now that the UAC is switched off.
I just thought what the heck. I was asked to get the latest version, which I did (2.8.2).
And run the All-in-one tool for the following tasks :
01, 02, 03, 04, 10.
Rebooted the machine and perform some logins with different types of users.
All, including standard type users logged in without any issue !
I then switched on the UAC after that. Same behaviour ! Alleluia !
I really don't know which part fixed the problem.
Is it the 2.8.2 version ? Can it be that the aio tool went further because the UAC was off ?
But I am glad it is over !  :artist:  :smiley:

It is possible that since the UAC was getting in the way and causing problems that it kept some of the repairs from having the permissions they needed. So when you ran it with it off then the repairs where able to get the permissions they needed and where able to change things.

At least that is what I think happened lol

v2.8.3 was put out today as well. Glad to hear my tool got you fixed :artist:
