Hi, I think your computer is infected with some browser virus, which kills your exe file. Please see this link and then download the exe fix from the page. Just download and execute it. You may find the solution
http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/file-asso-fixes-for-windows-7/
just download the exe in the page
The Bottom line is "Check your hardware first if it supports the task you try".

With MS programs you can right click on them in Programs and Features - click on Change then use the Repair option.

You can do the same with Adobe Reader so try the same on your other troublesome Adobe program - this doesn't work on Adobe Air or Flash Player but does for Shockwave.

Shane

I had go back and re-install from the adm account; luckily, it did not affect other users accounts settings, it did recover the needful start-up lnks;

Adobe still has trouble though, I tried run re-pair from Adobe setup menu;
maybe I forgot to run repair from the adm account. try again...

Please Note this Image on the left;    ( Adobe Folder ) When right click, the open function gone too...
Even after run repair... ADOBE, please fix your software...

After Running the ADOBE repair or install again, it only added them to the program menu and did not correct the program menu folder;
As they are in the Program menu now, I just deleted the Folder...

Hi, Did you  try the exe fix.
                              I have seen the problem of exe turning generic icons and not executable. I could only fix thro the exe of microsoft , the link of which is given in my post. Hi, Rick, you say related fixes. Did you try the exe fix.
The Bottom line is "Check your hardware first if it supports the task you try".

at some point, we need move on.

I copied important user program settings to the new user account, then, I deleted the old user accounts that were defective;
