you load to many drivers ;

Shane, this applies to many situations including windows will not start.

generally, 98 point 9 % of the time, it comes back to some msft setting...

What about the other 1.1% - I think if you have any beef with a particular driver then you should reinstall or look for an update and in the case of NVidia, you should always download those from your computer support site as vendors tend to OEM modify them - so if there's any fault, that could be laid at the door of the computer vendor, but any files that are downloaded are essential for a component to work.

Imagine we have done all that, but after a re-install. only using windows drivers worked great, but then later it found that using the Nvidea 9800 Board, it updated to that...

For reference; NVdia Backend Stopped Working error

It seems to happen when the computer comes out of hybernation... none of the boards remarked this issue, some boards say to disable the service with no directions how to disable the service

Us simple folk only download drivers from the mfr, install them, how to know which ones we using?

The bigger dilemma? we used the find my drivers automated service on the Nvdia site.

the fault lay here;

Coming out of hibernation or switching users.

Real Solution; (should be but isn't)

Go to services;

Find Nvidia Services;

Double click on Nvidia Service to see properties menu

Click on failure menu

change first failure to restart.

restart your system to take effect.

Reason this happens;

This Happens when switching between users or coming out of hibernation.
Dear Nvdia, Please fix your software.

Why go there when Nvidia have them on the site that I linked to above?  :rolleyes:

You should then select the correct primary video in the BIOS, AGP, PCI-E or PCI as appropriate for your card.

it says I has the latest drivers... hmmm

Why go there when Nvidia have them on the site that I linked to above?  :rolleyes:

You should then select the correct primary video in the BIOS, AGP, PCI-E or PCI as appropriate for your card.

As an aside, have n't you recently done a clean install of Vista? If so, did you install the chipset drivers for your motherboard too?

yes, did a clean install. that's a good idea to look at updating the chipset drivers, but ASuS already don't support vista any longer too.
Its why it makes no sense.  I am considering migraining too win7 ultimatum.

It is crucial for the correct functioning of the machine to install the chipset drivers....Still no reply as to where you got the video driver from? Nvidia will have the most recent one.

N.B. I checked the site that you linked to and compared the video drivers for 4 machines in our house, both ATI/AMD and Nvidia and they were all way out of date (time and version) against those from vendors' sites.

I meant to do a System Board test on the Nvidia card itself?

have tried several ideas including, including restart after first failure, changed delayed start-up in services etc...
next step is upgrading to win7 Ultimate to prove its Nvidia lack of Vista Support is most likely the route cause here.

Bottom line, it happens when coming out of hibernation or switching users
