(SOLVED) Issues installing Windows 10
« on: July 31, 2015, 05:53:44 am »
Hello,

I am having issues installing Windows 10 Pro. I currently have Windows 8.1 Pro x64.

Windows update fails the install so I had to manually download the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft.

The first time I used just the software itself to install.... It was able to make it to the point of restarting the PC...Then it goes into a black screen...I then have to power off my pc.
It restarts then hangs at 32% and 6% installing drivers. I left this for 8 hours with no movement.... So I had to power off and when it restores windows 8.1 pro... I get ALOT of freezing and then after rebooting and safe mode.... turning off services and restarting in a clean boot... The freezing goes away....

So I tried installing from a USB drive.... I have the same problem as before....

Does anyone know a fix for this?

Has anyone updated from 8.1 Pro x64 and is the performance worth it? I am a gamer and I also record music professionally.

Thanks,
Layne

0xC1900101 - 0x30018
The installation failed in the FIRST_BOOT phase with an error during SYSPREP operation.

I think this mainly affected GeForce and in the closing days of the run up to the 29th, MS released a Nvidia graphics update.

I'm not sure if this was all their own work or in collaboration with Nvidia, but I've seen on another forum that Nvidia put out its own update later, but the Win 10 upgrade removed that as it will do for anything it considers either not up to date or incompatible.

If you installed that update then see if uninstalling it and then see if the Win 10 update works - I've noticed from other forum posts that after Win 10 had installed, it would almost immediately download other updates which could address any failings in its smooth running.

This is only a guess but problems with graphics drivers can cause all sorts of problems.

I see that Nvidia Experience has a driver download for compatibilty with Windows 10.... but I have yet to download that.

I am working with my old drivers. I have 353.30 installed and the new driver available is 353.62. I dunno...

Maybe trying downloading the new driver?

It is just so painful if that windows 10 installation goes south.... It make everything unstable.... System freezes...the whole nine yards.....

8.1 pro is blazing right now.... I had to mess it up

If 10 has better performance like they boast... I see it being worth it... I just canttttt even install it.

Perhaps downloading the driver first may do it because if you have an incompatible graphics driver then that could easily baulk the install whichever way you do it - don't have that problem with AMD (yet ?).

Every single system I have updated has been amd machines and havent had a single one fail yet. The ones that have been failing have been the nvidia ones, and it is driver related.

This is the problem with every new OS, the lack of good drivers, happened with vista and 7 as well.

So you could just uninstall the nvidia drivers and install 10 and then grab the newest drivers for 10, or you can try updating them first.

Personally I always remove anything that can cause a problem, so if I have a crap driver I will just remove it and worry about putting new drivers on it after the upgrade :-)

Ok I will do that this evening then....

#1. Create Restore Point (cause its running unbelievably fantastic)
#2. Uninstall the nvidia drivers
#3. Attempt to install Windows 10

Is it alot better than Windows 8.1?

10 has it flaws, still way better than 8, but still not finished.I am still on 7, but if you are on 8, then 10 would be better.

What is your preference to install Windows 10?

1. Manually forcing windows update to download Windows 10
2. Download Media Creation Tool and install from the tool.
3. Install from USB drivey.
4. Install from ISO burned to disc

Trying to find the most stable method... I really don't want to go through the instability I just went through last night again...

After reading a little bit more...

I am seeing that Windows 10 is giving guys a lot of problems that have setups similar to mine.

https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/856761/geforce-drivers/windows-10-display-driver-feedback-thread-7-16-15-/32/

I may just wait for more stability.

Well, there's no rush and you have until 28th July next year which should be time enough for Nvida and MS to get things sorted ?

I decided to give it a shot and I was able to fix this issue by:

1. Download the Windows 10 ISO and saving to desktop.
2. Use Rufus 2.2 to mount the ISO to my jump drive
3. Updated Nvidia drivers to 353.62
4. Disabled SLI
5. Clean boot

Installed perfectly.

Thanks for your help,
Layne
