Missing files for installing windows update
« on: January 11, 2016, 07:55:01 PM »
Hello, I ran tweaking.com's window's repair tool and followed all the direction explicitly. Also made sure to run it twice.  Afterwords I still couldn't update windows 7 64bit sp1
My system is a windows 7 home premium 64bit.  After doing everything it also gave me a note saying the following http://prntscr.com/9p13v5
I'm not sure where to get these files from.  If you could help it would be great thanks.

So now I need to see the full log so I can see what OS version you have. I have only one of those mum files when I pulled from the data base. I have to go searching for them but each kb is different to each OS, so I need to make sure I get the correct one's.
or if you want you can type this command into cmd and it will get all the information I need. it will make a osinfo.txt file in the root of your user folder so all you have to do is open your user folder to see the file and copy and paste that on here so I can get those files.
Code: [Select]
wmic os get buildnumber,caption,osarchitecture >%UserProfile%\osinfo.txt

Thanks,
Julian

I've uploaded a zip file in it are the missing files and reg file. The reg file is used to add the take owner ship to the right click menu in explorer. Go ahead and merge that file with your registry.

Once that is done go to C:\Windows\servicing\ and right click on Packages and click on take ownership. You will now be able to copy the files into that folder.

The missing files that are in the folder that i've uploaded need to be placed in  C:\Windows\servicing\Packages\ folder.

Then run the pre-scan again, put a check on the box to have it add the cat files back to the database. :cheesy:

(THIS REPAIR IS USER SPECIFIC IF YOU ARE HAVING ISSUES WITH MISSING CAT OR MUM FILES MAKE A POST IN COMPUTER HELP AND I WILL HUNT DOWN THOSE FILES FOR YOU) :cheesy:

I followed all your instructions and all but one of the files cleared in pre scan.

These Files Are Possibly Corrupt (Bad Digital Signature): (Total: 1)
C:\Windows\servicing\Packages\Package_2_for_KB2556532~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.1.mum

I noticed this is one of the files you sent me but it still didn't clear.  Not sure why, I tried installing the package 3 times came up corrupt everytime.

Thanks that last file cleared all the errors from the pre-scan.  Not sure if I should start another topic or not but the whole reason i was using tweaking was to get Windows sp1 to install correctly.  I was hoping that fixing all those files would help but it didn't unfortunately.  Should I start another topic or continue here ?

This is what it said:

=================================
Checking System Update Readiness.
Binary Version 6.1.7601.22471
Package Version 26.0
2016-01-15 10:05

Checking Windows Servicing Packages

Checking Package Manifests and Catalogs

Checking Package Watchlist

Checking Component Watchlist

Checking Packages

Checking Component Store

Summary:
Seconds executed: 1581
 No errors detected

On a side note after trying to install sp1 via windows update and standalone installer both reported Error Code: 80070490
before I ran tweaking it would fail instantly however afterwards it would get to the part where the pc has to shutdown to finish before it crashed. Hope this helps.
