FSX side by side configuration failure
« on: August 05, 2012, 01:41:10 pm »
I have run your lastest program to clear this after following every MS suggestion, forum, and video out there.  Nothing will work.  the entire game is no longer even on the system.  I have reloaded windows.
Yet every time I attempt install the game say's side by side configuration failure.  Is my only option to do a complete reformat just to install 1 game?

I know I wouldnt want to do a fresh reinstall for just one game lol

Do you have trouble with any other games?

Also can you post a screen shot of the error when you get for me please :-)

Looks like it is the visual c runtime files causing the error.

Also found this, while it is for VC 9 and your is VC8 it should give us a clue where to start looking.

Have you also made sure the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 is up to date? I think it gets updated through the Windows update.

Ok I have went down deep following your post.  I have seen that this number 1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b is located in 2 spots and agrees with the ms post.  What would happen if I just deleted the 2 spots I found?  A reload of windows or problem removed from regs.

You can use my reg backup. Or since your just deleting a few keys, just right click on the each key in regedit and choose export

Did both back ways.  Got to take a break.  And will conduct a restart to let it take effect.

At least we know what is cauing the problem :-)

I say uninstall VC 8 runtimes. Then remove any reg traces of it and delete the files from the side by side dir.

Reboot and then see how things go and reinstall them when it asks.

I am sometimes amazed by the idiot in me.  It was framework and Visual C++ causing some of the problem.  The other part was me.  I was attempting to load an add-on upgrade to the computer.  Not the basic program that was needed first.

Lesson learn.
1st ensure you are attempting to load the correct program.
2 nd ensure you are updated with the latest framework and Visual C++

This should clear up any side by side configuration failure you have.

I Would also like to say thank you for helping me trouble shoot the problem.  Couldn't of done it without your help.
