Can't stop Win7 from booting to safe mode
« on: February 20, 2016, 06:13:50 am »
I used one of your programs to reboot to safe mode and now I can't get it to boot normally even when I select to boot Windows normally after using F8. None of your programs will open in safe mode.  I was going to run Windows Repair Pro in safe mode. Either I get invalid picture when trying to run one of your programs or just nothing happens.

Figured out how to fix this using msconfig.exe. Thanks anyway.

Can you give some more details about what is happening in Safe Mode either when running WR or not.

I just installed Windows Repair v.3.8.3 (Pro version) and noticed that it recommends running it in "Safe Mode with Networking".  I'm hoping that using it will fix my problem I get when I try and install MS Visual Studio 2015 Community version which is:  "The file or directory is not a reparse point."  When I reboot to Safe Mode with Networking and try and run Windows Repair I get the error: "Invalid Picture".  I didn't notice if my ESET Smart Security was still running or not.  Trying to run Windows Repair in Safe Mode with Networking is the first thing I try after booting to Safe Mode.  Not sure what other information you might need or are looking for.

I've notified Shane of this error but with it being a weekend, may not get a reply until Monday.

If my program was able to open in safe mode it would have removed the safe boot option like msconfig does. Did you only get that error in safe mode?

Invaild picture is coming from one of the system files it uses. From what i can find it looks like it might be coming from mscomctl.OCX

Can you go check your syswow64 folder and tell me what version of that file you have?

I forgot to ask what version of Windows.

On my Windows 7 the version should be 6.1.98.16

Each version of Windows will have a different version :-)

lol no. I just realized because of how many posts I answer in one sitting that I almost never read the subject line I just read the first post.

Skips58, open a command window as administrator and put this in
sfc /scannow

When it is finished let me know if it says no problems found or if it found corrupt files but was unable to replace them.

My TweakingFormControls.ocx is the controls I use in the program and they do call the mscomctl.OCX file.

Can you run SFCFix.exe which will produce a more concise report on which files cannot be repaired.
