I'll delete your other thread in the Computer Help section and Julian will work on this one.

I'm missing a file and need to download the update to add to my database of cat and mum files. can you please let me know what os version and architecture you are using?
an easy command to run in command prompt (cmd)
is
Code: [Select]
wmic os get caption, version, csdversion, osarchitecture, versionfor now here are some of the files I got
and here are some instructions to follow to put them in the right place.

First grab the zip file off this page and apply the reg file it in to add the take owner ship to the right click menu in explorer.
http://www.tweaking.com/articles/pages/add_quottake_ownershipquot_to_right_click_menu_in_vista_amp_7,1.html

Once that is done go to C:\Windows\servicing\ and right click on Packages and click on take ownership. You will now be able to copy the files into that folder.

I have attached the missing files, extract the files out of the attached zip file and put them in the C:\Windows\servicing\Packages\ folder.

Then run the pre-scan again, put a check on the box to have it add the cat files back to the database. :cheesy:

(THIS REPAIR IS USER SPECIFIC IF YOU ARE HAVING ISSUES WITH MISSING CAT OR MUM FILES MAKE A POST IN COMPUTER HELP AND I WILL HUNT DOWN THOSE FILES FOR YOU) :cheesy:

this is the update for the windows 10 nag ware kb3350583.. are you having issues with updating? the prescan is optional and you can still run the repair's. let me know because i can not manually download this update to extract those files what i would recommend is removing that update and try downloading it again via windows update.

Hello Julian,

I tried to remove the update but it says it's not present. I can see the GWK-icon though and besides that it interrupts an install of KB3035583. Could you please tell which files I'll have to remove to try a fresh install.

While I can't remember all of the Win 10 associated updates for Win 7, two that are prominent are KB2952664 and KB3980149

Search for those by entering them into the top right search box in Installed Updates and uninstall them.

After the final reboot, do a manual check for updates and they and KB3035583 may be offered again, or you could just wait until they are naturally offered.

The Check for updates may not take as long on a Sunday as other days because there have been quite a lot of Win 7 users complaints about this taking ages, as well as the download also hanging which may be related to busy MS servers or MS prioritising them for Win 10.
