Make sure to post in the correct section  (I moved this thread to the correct area for you)

Can you post a screen shot of the error when you get it?

This will let me see more and then I can do some research on it and see what I can come up with :-)

I am also wondering if the files needed for the bit service are missing or not as well.

Shane,
The BITS service is missing in my win 7 64. I used the following:

sc create BITS binpath= "c:\windows\system32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs" start= delayed-auto

Entered this at admin cmd.
BITS appeared in services, but would start with an error2.

That fix is widely recommended and works for most individuals.
The BITS also is in the HKEY Machine register.

I would appreciate your help. I ran Tweak but to no avail.
Regards,
Marvin

Let me know if this fix works, I will be working on adding it to the Windows repair soon.

In the link to the fixes there is a reg file that puts the reg settings back. Let me know if that one does the trick.

Shane,

After I loaded the SC create string, as you know, BITS would not start.

I then clicked on BITS.Zip you suggested  and the windows update installed all 14 updates.
Without BITS the updates, of course, would not install.

I cannot thank you enough for culminating a multiday arduous task.  I urge you to
include this fix for BITS in Tweaking. There are a multitude of individuals who do not look at
Vista 64 answers when win7 64 is the OS.

Again, I am pleased and greatful for your support.
Regards,
Marvin

Shane,
While  was researching the BITS start prroblem,
I entered a group of .dll  at cmd admtn regsvr32.
I do not recall what they were, and have no idea whether or
not they had any affect on the solution.
Just a note to you for cosideration from a novice.
Many thanks.

I will double check it. I have a big update planned. :-) (More repairs and such)

Also I just tested and Windows Repair works on Windows 8
