PNP detected fatal error....during Windows 8.1 updates today!
« on: September 23, 2016, 10:23:20 am »
And now I can't start my computer past the sign in page, and if I wait too long, it'll just go back to the PNP error message!  I have been able to get in to Safe Mode a few times to check things and have run the Tweaking Windows program, to no avail.  I'm frustrated!  Should I do a refresh, where my files are at least saved?  HELP!!!!!!!

When I tried a repair somewhere, it came up that the Intel(R) Serial IO 12C Host Controller - 9CE2      had a problem, but even after uninstalling in Device Manager and shutting down, the problem still exists.  One of the updates today had to do with drivers, so my suspicion is that the updates had something to do with this problem.  But when I check installed updates, the ones from today don't appear.

In Safe Mode are you able to use your restore points to prior the updates.

No I wasn't.  Unfortunately, I wasn't able to be any more patient and I've since done a refresh, so I have access again, but just now have to spend lots of time reinstalling programs!!!!!  Thanks for responding tho'!

That's the only problem with a Refresh.

If you come unstuck again, create yourself a bootable disk or USB using the MCT from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8?tduid=(ba331f6e9612dcb6f3c8e31184b10aae)(266696)(1503186)(skim97702X1552857X56328c9904612fb41d71e93f11f96474)() and then you can perform a repair install which won't affect your programs or personal stuff, but it's advised to back up your personal stuff as a safeguard.

I would also get into the habit of creating regular system images onto external media to fall back on.
