Can Tweaking be run from EHD ?
« on: December 28, 2016, 06:01:20 pm »
I'm trying to keep a fresh install of Windows 7 as clean & uncluttered as possible on a new SSD.

I'm having problems getting Windows Updates to download & install updates, & Tweaking previously helped with a similar problem on an older HDD. In that scenario Tweaking was installed on the HDD.

In an effort to keep the SSD uncluttered, can Tweaking be run from an EHD? Will it still install anything on the main SSD?

Thank you for any suggestions.

The program runs from within Windows.

Not sure about the EHD but you could use the portable version.

- EHD = External Hard Disk ?
- I just downloaded the Portable version and it runs well, both from an external USB HD & a USB thumbdrive.

- That's precisely what a "Portable Version" is meant for. Running it from an external (USB) drive.
- Also make sure to untick those external drives in the main repair GUI.  A USB HDD today can easily contain 500 GB or more in data/info. Because USB disk I/O is (much) slower than disk I/O for an internal drive. (think: serial data transfer versus parallel data transfer).

Thanks, don’t know how I missed the portable version. Guess the regular version has been on the old HDD so long that I never checked to see what else is available. I'll give the portable version a try & put it on a USB thumb drive.

On a separate note -
With my old HDD installed I frequently notice that the “Tweaking.com” icon is in the system tray. I click on the icon & Exit the program, but it shows up again, probably after restarting the PC. It’s never really bothered me, but I’m puzzled why the icon keep showing up. How do I stop this from happening?

- There's an option in the "Settings" section of the program that will prevent the tray icon from popping up.

I find it handy showing in the system tray for the quick access to the program and Clean Memory, but you can change the icon's notification by using the Customize option after clicking on the up arrow in the system tray.
