Windows Repair Tool-Pro: Reset Tweaks to normal
« on: January 26, 2017, 10:06:02 am »
Hi Forum,
quick question to Windows Repair All In One - Pro:

After having applied some of the Tweak Tools, esp. the Performance set ...

Does using the Repair Tool (all default) reverse the Tweaks / changes made with Tweak Tool to normal?

I'm exploring reasons why I get/got yellow UAC warnings (".cmd or .msc ... unknown program") for regular Windows apps like event viewer or services.
At first it pointed to Malwarebytes and their Real-Time protection but it looks like it wasn't the culprit.
Today I ran the Repair tool twice, without the tweaks - and so far no prompts for event viewer etc. ... and blue ones for admin. command prompt and acknowledged programs - as usual

so - does using the Repair Tool reverse any tweaks made in the past?

Thanks

As it resets everything, that's a possibility - but I'll ask.

Thanks Boggin ... as you can see I'm still at it ... the prompt everything issue...
so ... if it resets everything ... as it supposed to do ...and including the tweaks beack to normal ... and the problem disappeared ... then I would have an indication that the problem comes from somewhere in the tweak settings ... mayb  :-)

My Toshiba laptops don't like being tweaked so I leave as is.

It may not be the program but the same for your computer.

After another two startups everything seems to be back to normal - meaning: no more prompts for every normal Windows function / open event viewer or services. And the ones that usually should prompt are blue again.

So - I think the culprit is one tweak in the Pro Version - in performance tweaks.
I will leave it alone, all reset by Windows Tool ... maybe try to locate it, by checking out,one at a time, certain performance tweaks and see if it comes back

Cheers

Nice to see a problem solved - or nearly :D

No doubt you will keep us up to date with what you find and then that can be passed onto Shane should the Tweaks need a tweak :)

Hi Boggin,
definitely can confirm - problem solved (see above)... applying the Repair Tool - but NOT applying the (performance) tweaks ... did it.

So - be careful with the tweaks - do one at a time and make notes to pinpoint possible drawbacks

As I checked "Repair / set services to default" - Error 219 and Error 7009 re-appeared in Event Viewer.
Easily fixed in services by:

   - 219 - change "Windows Driver Foundation ..."  to started - automatic
   - 7009 - disable or set to manual the two Windows Media Center and the Windows Media Player Services (all three side by
                 side)

Cheers

@KR:

Question: I also tried the things you reported in this thread but didn't encounter those problems. What programs have you installed that are "Media related"/could be using those Services/"don't like" the tweaks you made ?

I could imagine that e.g. two installed media players are causing these problems/are clashing. In the recent past I have been fiddling with my system a bit (registration of files) and then problems with the 2 installed media players started to surface.

Yes, as this one was more precise for Shane's purpose, it seemed appropriate to ignore the duplicate thread.

The three services and them being altered has nothing to do with the actryal post/thread ... I just mentioned it

Please read the initial post - UAC prompting everything - problem solved ...it was the tweak section in the Pro version - not exactly sure which one specifically

Thanks

Thought this thread was a round up of that one.

Shane will see your reference when he reads this link I posted with the email to him.
