I'm trying to help here about a topic.https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/638435/hao123com-has-highjacked-firefox-homepage/?p=4184204
Can't start Settings and Store. I used Tweaking Windows Repair (All in One) in normal and safe mode. But it did not solve the problem. Thanks for any ideas.

To remove PuPs, AdwCleaner and Junkware Removal Tool (JRT) are quite effective, but have you tried resetting FF to defaults ?

Read the instructions for its use and the link for JRT is lower down the page.

The Windows Repair program can't repair infection damage while the infection is still present.

I didn't have time to read the full thread earlier and just went by the thread title - it was certainly persistent.

Have the OP run FreeFixer to get rid of any SuperAntiSpyware residue and that should resolve those SAS errors.

http://www.freefixer.com/

Other files that are shown as not found and can be selected, then those are safe to remove as well.

Have the OP copy & paste the cmd in this article to an elevated cmd prompt and that should sort any VSS problems.

https://justworks.ca/blog/fix-event-513-capi2-errors-during-windows-backup

This article is to resolve a specific one of the DCOM 10016 errors but the same principles can be used for the other keys in the other DCOM 10016 errors.

https://www.kapilarya.com/fix-event-10016-error-the-application-specific-permission-settings-do-not-grant-local-activation-permission-in-windows-10

I assume his Internet is working okay now ?

Even though the sfc /scannow came back clean, have the OP run this cmd -

dism /online /cleanup-image /checkhealth

and if that says the volume is repairable then enter this one -

dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup

That one can take a while to run, then finally run this one -

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

While this one can look as if it hangs at 20%, it will complete but if it returns it cannot find the source file, then I think a repair install will be the way to go.

If the OP hasn't created a Win 10 install disk then he can by hitting the Download tool now button in https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10 after reading the section in how to create installation media.

You'll probably know how to do this but with the machine booted up, open Windows Explorer - This PC - insert the media then double click on the drive to start the process.

I don't know which is providing the Firewall - Avira or IObit Malwarefighter but when I was using Norton Security, I used to disable it before performing a repair install, so it may be best to advise the OP to disable those first.

You could direct the OP to this thread which would save you from typing everything out, but I noticed from the last comments by the OP that he's also considering a repair install.

The CAPI2 and DCOM 10016 errors won't be addressed by the repair install though.

I get the odd 10016 error but when they just relate to some app. I'll just ignore them.

A tip for finding those keys is to click on the 10016 error and then on Details - right click and drag on whichever key then right click again to Copy, then in regedit click on View/Find and Paste into the Find box - Next - and it will take you straight to it.

Probably best to go straight for the repair install.

If the OP still gets the CAPI2 and DCOM 10016 errors, then have him refer to your hyperlink.

The 10016 errors aren't critical but the CAPI2 Event ID 513 will stop him from creating system images as they will freeze.
