System Restore etc

Hello,
I am not a computer type person, so please bear with me. I have an HPNotebook Laptop Windows 10-I have no volume in my videos ...I have volume (noises) in the computer itself. This is the 2nd time I have lost the audio. I fiddled around with everything I oculd find that said sound/audio etc and somehow fixed it the first time. (don't ask me how I did it). However, it has gone mute once more. I have tried everything.. ..hours...to restore it. Nope, Nada. I have tried the system restore and that created another problem. It will not restore. I get an error message that states: )x8007025d saying that it did not complete. (I have this same issue on my desktop Dell (windows10). So I could not go back to a previous time with hopes of getting audio back. I went into the control panel and into anything audio I could find again..and found one issue that I cannot find a driver for without giving up my first born so to speak: Device ROOT\MEDIA\0000 requires further installation. & another one:Device HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0282&SUBSYS_103C80C1&REV_1000\4&15e25285&0&0001 requires further installation.
I don't know if these messages mean it is the problem with the audio or not.
So I basically have a 2 in 1...the fix to either one would be awesome as I am at my wits end. Thank you
PS...I am a layperson and not to savvy on computer talk

Putting the VEN & DEV number into a PCI Database that was in your PM didn't come up as a Realtek device but a Google search on it did.

Check the box to accept and click on Next then you can use the first or second option depending if you are using 32 or 64 bit at http://www.realtek.com/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=24&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

When you get a restore point fail then retry in Safe Mode as it's invariably your antivirus program that is blocking it.

Hello again...I installed that link...and still no audio...I probably am not doing something right.
I downloaded the 64 because that is what I have...rebooted etc.
No audio ...should I delete anything? Thank you for your previous help.

Did the driver install okay ?

Do you have a red cross on your speaker icon in the taskbar and have you checked to see what the volume level is if there isn't.

Right click on the Start button and select Control Panel.

If it isn't listed then click out of that then click on the Start button and type control panel and when it comes up, right click on it and select Pin to start.

Click out of that and right click on the Start button and select Control Panel.

To the right of Control Panel in the top bar, click on the arrow and select All Control Panel Items then double click on Realtek HD Audio Manager.

Click on Sound Effects then use the dropdown to select the mode you want and check the box for Loudness Equalization.

In the lower pane use the dropdown for the mode you want then click on OK.

I have mine set to Living Room and Live but I generally just watch BBC iPlayer.

Hello,
I could not do System restore on Safe Mode ( I tried it twice) It failed. The second try I got an error message of:0x80070091
I still do not have sound. I have down loaded the link you gave me and cannot find if it is indeed integrated into the system ie: installed-It seems as if there is a block not allowing it to be installed. I am wondering if I need to delete anything first ?
(I have also read that system restore was not installed in the Windows 10-)
So I am at my wits end.

When Win 10 updates it has been known to turn System protection off.

In normal mode open Windows Explorer - right click on This PC and select Properties then click on System protection where it should say if it's on or off with a button to click on to turn it on.

This YT video looks useful to resolve that error code - pause it and write down the instructions and then apply them.

You haven't said if you have a red cross on the speaker icon in the task bar.

I have known of adware taking out audio but reinstalling the audio driver has resolved that.

Right click on the Start button and select Device Manager and in there click on View/Show hidden devices and expand Sound video and game controllers.

Right click on the Realtek HD Audio and select Properties where it will give its status.

Under the Driver tab will show which version you have.

I don't know if mine is up to date but that shows as 18/06/2015 version 6.0.1.7541

If you see any yellow alerts or red  crosses let me know.

Hello,
I did the UTube, wrote down the instructions and this is what happened:

HI, I followed the instructions to the letter, however, when I got to the prompt:
takeown/fWindowsApps/r/dY...
I got a message: takedown part it says is not recognized etc
So, I tried it various ways, and still no go. I even skipped that command and went to the next one...nope.
I don't know what to do...thoughts?

Your error may have been not entering the cmd properly if how you have posted it is how you entered it.

There is a space before each / and a space after /f and /d so it should be entered as -

takeown /f WindowsApps /r /d Y

I've just entered that cmd on another Win 10 laptop and the response is exactly as it is in the video.

Create a restore point first before trying it again after checking to see if System protection is enabled.

When you see a particular command, look carefully to see if there are any spaces and copy it exactly like you see it on the screen.

My apologies about where to see the buttons in System protection - you need to click on Configure - a lapse in memory.

It looks like I may have to update my Realtek HD Audio :)

Still no volume, but now I will try the real tek install link again and see what happens.

How far back did you restore to ?

You may want to try those cmds on your Dell PC if that gives the same error code when trying the restore points in Safe Mode.

Have you checked the volume level on the taskbar ?

I've Googled no audio in win 10 to see if it is a common problem and it appears to be.

Hi,
I could only go back to Aug 9. But it did install successfully. The volume level is good on the task bar but no audio alas.
So I don't know what to do next and I don't want to inadvertantly screw the install up.
thoughts?

Have a read through those two links I've posted but in System protection click on show more restore points as you may be able go back further to when audio was working.

It's strange that you are getting restore point problems on two machines, but I assume the audio is okay on the Dell ?

I've just updated my Realtek audio and the driver is now showing as 14/06/2017 ver. 6.0.1.8186

Not sure if you actually received my reply....I could only go back to 8/9...it wouldn't go any further, but it did work.
No volume, still, but it is what it is.
I will try and see what I have in my Dell, and then compare and see if I can fix it.

Can you right click on the Start button and select Event Viewer - ensure Event Viewer (Local) is highlighted and when you see Critical, Errors etc. click on Errors then on View All Instances of This Event in the lower right pane and look to see if there are any related Events, probably time stamped for when you booted up.

Clicking on any will give some info on the error in the pane below.

If you want to post any, click on Copy/Copy details as text in the lower right pane then right click in the reply box and select Paste.

You may want to check this on yours - on checking after updating my Realtek audio drivers to 14/06/2017 ver. 6.0.1.8186 I noticed today that I no longer had my Realtek HD Audio Manager.

Rolling back the driver in Device Manager removed the Realtek and just left me with the MS HD adapter.

I had created a restore point earlier yesterday which put things back.
