Running Windows Repair disabled Malwarebytes
« on: March 28, 2018, 03:07:33 pm »
After running Tweaking.com Windows Repair, when trying to run Malwarebytes I get a message " unable to start;unable to connect to service.
I went to services and tried to start the service manually but it would not start???
Malwarebytes was running fine prior to this.
Thanks,
Chuck

I only use the free version of MBAM and have its service set to Manual, but WR has never stopped it from running when I've used it.

I would suggest reinstalling MBAM.

It's possible that Event Viewer or reliability history has some info as to why it can't be started.

In Services/MBAM/Properties its only two Dependencies are RPC and Windows Management Instrumentation - these should both be showing as Running and Auto - can you check those in Services ?

Which antivirus program are you using and will MBAM run in Safe Mode with Networking ?

Have you tried running Malwarebytes clean tool? It'll do a compete clean of your current installation, prompt you to reboot, download and reinstall the latest version. It will preserve your current licence though you'd be wise to make sure you had your licence details recorded just in case.

Did you try it in Safe Mode with Networking ?

You could open the repair program and click on Backup Tools then on Restore under Registry Backup - Restore Registry then use the dropdown to select the dated back up then hit Restore Now and then see if it will run if it still doesn't run in Safe Mode.

Why did you need to run the repair program ?

Have you started a thread in the Malwarebytes forums and used their new support tool https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/224792-introducing-the-new-malwarebytes-support-tool/ to run diagnostics and post logs for a solution there? They're pretty resourceful in providing solutions.

A new update had been released on the 28th which you can get via the program Settings/Install application updates on the free version.

FWIW
I just noticed that the title is "windows repair" instead of "windows restore." My bad.
Yes I started  a thread at the Malwarebytes Forum.
We discovered Windows Management Instrumentation is not running and cannot be started.
I am going to start Windows Repair and run WMI repair at their suggestion.
