Selective repairs
« on: September 07, 2018, 03:43:38 am »
IMPORTANT - if I can get a reply ASAP.  I want to run Tweaking over the weekend.  Thanks.
Attached is a capture of my repair list with why I don't run default.  Could you tell me if I'm making a mistake by unchecking the ones marked.
Incidentally I'm getting messages about not having permission to perform tasks - though I'm the administrator1 on my one user acct.  l also get messages of not allowing Saves except in the root directory.  Are these the types of things Tweaking would reset/fix?  Thanks

You can leave the Proxy, CD/DVD and Sidebar repairs but I'd include Repair Important Windows Services - I don't know if that would default them but you can leave the 8/10 repairs, although it would ignore those anyway if you aren't using 8 or 10.

Before you run the program, I'd run a sfc /scannow and a chkdsk /f

The program can repair Permissions if it will let you run the program in Safe Mode with Networking - not sure about the Save though.

Have you tried your restore points, preferably in Safe Mode to see if that will resolve the Permissions and Save problems - these may have been caused by something you have downloaded, so an antimalware scan with something like the free version of MBAM probably wouldn't go amiss.

Thanks.  Last thing... on sfc /scannow and chkdsk what parameter code can I use to view or save results as .txt?

The sfc /scannow will give its report at the end of the scan but to view the chkdsk log, go Start - type eventvwr and press enter when it comes up.

When Event Viewer has read the data, expand Windows Logs - click on Action/Find then type chkdsk or wininit into the Find box and press enter.

Cancel the Find box and then read the log in the scrollable window below.

If sfc /scannow reports that it has repaired some files but not others, download and run SFCFix.exe which will produce its own report in Notepad which you can then copy & paste into the reply box.

Just leave things for now - I'd like to see if you resolve the Permission and Save problems but run an antimalware scan or try your restore points first.
