pc going mad
« on: April 26, 2019, 04:43:29 AM »
My pc is typing on it's own. Whenever I try to type the letter P, It types R, and then begins typing an old password of mine. I have tried everything I can think of, to no avail. Obviously it is making the pc useless.
All help gratefully received.

To start with I would suggest checking to see if this still happens in Safe Mode, but I believe an antimalware scan in Safe Mode with Networking would be prudent.

For that I would suggest downloading in Safe Mode with Networking and running a scan with the ESET Free Online Scanner to see what that finds.

Thanks for the input, however I have already tried this and also done a complete scan for malware. I have Eset protection and it finds nothing. This is definately a fault in windows 10.

I wouldn't have thought so if it is typing out an old password but to see if there is a fault in Windows, open a Command Prompt (Admin) and enter these cmds - each of which will take a while to run.

dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

sfc /scannow

The first two should successfully complete but the sfc /scannow will tell you if any corruption remains.

Let me know if it reports anything other than no integrity violations found.

Enter exit to close the cmd window.

BTW - Did it still occur in Safe Mode ?

My pc is typing on it's own. Whenever I try to type the letter P, ...

What software are you typing into?

Sorry, good idea but cannot type the letter P. So cannot enter the commands.
Typing anywhere.

You haven't answered if you still get this in Safe Mode.

You could try just the sfc /scannow cmd to see what that reports.

Does Event Viewer report any anomalies when you try the letter p ?

What do you get when you type the letter r ?

See if there's anything in this article that will help - https://appuals.com/fix-keyboard-typing-wrong-letters-on-windows-10/

I don't have W 10,  but could you use the onscreen keyboard to enter the appropriate commands suggested here?
