Hi - I could not delte the CBS.log file; couldnot rename it or move to documents folder.

Yes, I have the original product key, but about two years ago I got "not genuine"; I called MS and they gave me another key which worked for about a year --- then not genuine again. Called MS but all they had was an online thing; I played with the online thing and entered keys, etc; but, that alsolet me not genuine; I called MS again and got sent to some place about getting a key for MS Office --- they did not know anthing else about key for W7.

I have W7 64 bit OS.

I assume that is Win 7 Home Premium ?

Do you still get the Not Genuine message ?

You may have to try the original and the replacement key that MS provided later but let's see what happens after recreating the Licencing Store.

Run a cmd prompt as an admin and enter these cmds - you can copy & paste the long one to avoid any typos.

net stop sppsvc
(wait until the service has stopped before entering the following lines)

CD %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform

REN tokens.dat tokens.bar

net start sppsvc

slui.exe

After a couple of seconds the Windows Activation dialog will appear.

You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key, or Activation may occur automatically.

If you are asked for your Key, use the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case.

Reboot.

If Slui doesn't accept your original key, then try the replacement.

BTW - My CBS log was exactly the same as yours with all of those files being moved.

After sending my CBS log to Documents, that findstr cmd gave me the same error as you received.

I'm restoring that machine with a system image and will try another sfc /scannow and the findstr cmd.

EDIT - Have you tried the hidden admin account yet ?

I am thinking that maybe it is the attachments.

I have Win 7 64b Ultimate; supposed to be that same as professional.

I did what you said and now I am genuine.

Observation: Browser can download to the C drive; Irfanview can save files to C drive (documents); but, I can not create a folder on the desktop. I still get the 340 error message.

I have this iobit scanning program that must have gotten installed with the anti-virus update (Avast). Annoying. Don't know if I should uninstall or not; is it part of the antir-virus?

I will now follow ypu instructions to make the alt admin account and will report right after I do that.

One more thought. I could not take ownership of C; it would not let me; however, I went on the C drive and took ownership of each individual folder. So that is what I meant by my answer. FWIW

Ultimate is Ultimate and is a higher version than Pro.

Did this come pre-installed or did you upgrade to Ultimate ?

I thought that 340 error code may have given me something to work on but Google hasn't come up with anything.

I'm not sure if I've already asked this but can you create new folders in Safe Mode ?

In that mode all 3rd party programs are isolated.

You can uninstall that IObit program as it's unwanted bundled software.

I've come across this article for resolving unable to create new folders, but as it involves changing the registry, I'm loathe ro recommend it without creating a restore point first that you could rely upon.

The alternative would be to create a system image onto external media and then give it a try.

Disregard using any registry cleaners as the article suggests.

Hi tom,

Safe mode does not allow creation of folder or text file, but the message is different: Can not find/load module.

Re article:

I disabled the antivirus - no change.

BTW, I can not create a restore point in Safe mode; but I can in normal mode.
There was a strange message when I did --- attached in next post.

I tried methods 4 in the Auslogistics message you cited. No change.

Then, I tried method 3 in the Auslogics message you cited; did this after 4 because it seemed more complicated. But, not able to execute reg script. See message in next post. I did iw one with the "Windows Registry editor ..." as the first line, but I got message "not a registry script" Then, I eliminated the first line and tried again. Same result. Not a registry script.

Can you tell me how you got Win 7 Ultimate installed on your machine because if you have a valid retail key you can download your own ISO and create either a bootable disk or USB with which you can perform a repair install.

If you do, you may be able to perform your own repair install - which product key did you use when you recreated the Licence Store ?

This article relates to that VCRUNTIME140_CLR0400.dll but I'd prefer it if you back up your system before adding anything to it.

If it came with a product key, that may be acceptable to release the ISO for download from https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows7

Scroll down the page, enter the product key then click on Verify, but that Redistributable link seems to be a genuine MS download which you could try to install.

Save the download and then download Windows USB/DVD Burner Tool to create either a bootable DVD or USB.

When you've done that, go Start - Computer - insert the install media and double click on its drive.

This will start the process when using a DVD but will open to its files when using an USB where you would then double click on setup.exe Application.

I think there may be an EULA to accept but it will do its own thing where at some point you will be prompted to enter the product key.

Your Dell install disk may not have included SP1 which may not have worked for a repair install but the ISO will include SP1 so the repair install should succeed.

It could take about 2½hrs.

There may be a few updates to install afterwards.

It only does the OS and doesn't touch personal stuff or installed programs.

There is one thing you should do first though and that is to back up the drivers folders as a precaution onto something like an USB but I've never had any driver problems going missing when I've performed a repair install on my Win 10.

The drivers folders can be found in C:\Windows\System32 where you can drag & Drop them into the storage USB drive and then drag & drop them back into System32 after if needed.

OK, I ran the backup. I was not sure which to use. Macrium Reflect was what I was usning after Aomei kept hanging in 2017. But Macrium was slow and kept my whole system hostage. I thought of using
Ashampoo2020 but once I installed it, it seemed complicated and I could not direct it to a local drive and it could not attach to my NAS.

I read AOMEI cleaned up their act so I used AOMEI. Fast and an improvedment over the AOMEI of the past; no hanging.

But, I can not get the drivers from the System32 folder that you mentioned. System is not allowing copy to local or to NAS. So I am keeping my fingers crossed that the AOMEI will be good.

I will do the OSA fix in a little while and report back to you then.

I just drag & drop them into an USB - don't do any NAS etc. although I use Macrium Reflect Free for my Win 10 System Images.

I use Windows own Create a system image on my Win 7 machine.

I'm in the process of performing a repair install on my Win 7 machine to see if it will complete this time.

I was a bit disappointed to see that you hadn't come back with a job done post when I logged into the forum this morning, but I see you are still in preparatory mode.

Hi Tom - I tried just brining that folder to a USB, but still system would not let that happen. BTW, that driver folder is 6GB; is that not a little large for drivers?

I can't check my Win 7 ones at the moment but 6GB doesn't ring a bell from when I backed them up before - I forgot to do it on my Win 7 before starting the repair install, but I have a recent system image to restore with if things go awry.

How many drivers folders do you have and do you have any external devices connected to your machine at the moment ?

In one of the steps - Installing features and updates - it installs your devices so I think you should be okay.

I've just had an error message on the Win 7 machine that there's insufficient space but I think that refers to the 400MB recovery partition.

I'll have to look into that later.
