Computer won't reognize external hard drives, but recognizes printer

My computer does not recognize usb hard drives, but recognizes my printer, can it be fixed?

Lets see if it is seeing the drive but simply isnt giving it a drive letter.

Plug in an external drive. Then right click on Computer and choose manage. In there go to disk management. Do you see the external drive in there but it has no drive letter?
