Envelope printer not aligning properly
« on: March 29, 2017, 09:22:49 am »
Not sure what changed, Envelope printer worked fine when I first installed it. The last couple times I've tried to use it the printing is nearly off the envelope. It is as-if the envelope were a full size (8.5 x 11) sheet of paper. If I put in a full size sheet of paper it prints at the far left of the page with the printing aligned to the long edge of the page. If an envelope could be fed on the far left of the tray it would be fine, but the way the manual feed works it centers the envelope, so the return address is off the envelope and only the bottom two lines of the address show at the top edge of the envelope. I have no idea what changed. If the printer "knew" it was an envelope and printed centered it would be fine.

I've got to be missing something obvious and simple, right?

System: Windows 7 64-bit
Printer: HP-4050 Laserjet, networked, connected via ethernet

I think someone had complained about something similar a while ago but I can't remember if it was resolved.

Have you tried reinstalling the program ?

Hi Boggin,

Yes, I've reinstalled the latest version and it made no difference.

Can you give me an example of addresses in similar size to what you are using and I'll try it on my Epson printer.

I'll also need the envelope size you are using.

I've used the program once before but didn't need the return address aspect of it.

I'll download the program again so that I'll be using the same version as you.

OK, couldn't figure out how to post a screen shot...

the return address is (similar to):
TKS
259 Diablo St.
Mountain View, CA 94043

To address is:
USJF
P.O. Box 338
Ontario, OR 97914

Envelope is "Printer Supported - #10 (4.12x9.50) inches"

All fonts are default for the program.

I hope that is the info you were asking for.

My guess is that the program is not telling the printer to use the envelope as the paper type, and that it is defaulting to 8.5 x 11 inch paper.

It came out a bit blurry on an upgraded Win 10 laptop so I tried it on a Win 7 one.

In both cases it printed it out as for on an A4 but also it didn't print the full recipient's address with text ending at Box and only half of the post code.

I scanned the page to PC and then attached the pic to my reply, but while you can make out where it printed the address, when it's expanded, it just shows a blank sheet - so I removed that reply and re-wrote this one.

I assume my Epson printer has PostScript supported drivers for the US Custom sizes.

I have tried it again with an UK size printer supported 5" x 8".

While it printed the full address that time, it was still as for an A4 sheet of paper.

I'll pass this on.
