Shane:
hhhmm but event viewer cant open either, you get the snap in error.

I have a feeling more is broken then we realize.

I think a repair install, not a fresh install, would be the next thing to do. A repair install allows you to keep your files and settings.

I assume your on Windows 7. So first thing you need is a Windows 7 disk with SP1 already on it, you can grab one here

Then just follow this guide

Rumrunner:
I am using Vista Home Premium 32 bit with SP2 and have done a Repair Install.....This did not fix the Windows Update Problem either

Shane:
Ah ok your on vista.

The repair install is a lot like the Windows 7 repair steps. Is that how you did the repair install?

Shane:
I just helped a user where they had a virus that didnt delete the windows update service but instead corrupted its registry setting, so not even trying to delete it will work. Lets see if you have the problem as well.

In the registry go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\wuauserv

Are up able to view it or do anything with it or do you get an error?

Shane

Rumrunner:
I just went to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\wuauserv
and everything looked okay.......also I used the Vista Disk to Repair Startup with no errors.
