Windows Xp - Blank Welcome Screen

(1/7) > >>

dondon:
Something really odd occured on my windows xp.For some reason ,it won't show any users on welcome screen.I've manage to get around it by using Alt+Ctrl+Del+Del,typed my user and password then immediately set my computer to autologon on my user by WinKey+R,control userpasswords 2,unthicked User must press Alt+Ctrl+Del and entered my account info.

Still the problem wasn't solved at all.If a re-enable the welcome screen, the event will repeat.Any user or logon domain i attempted to create turned into "ghosts".User and Groups i made were made but my PC cant see them for some reason

1.I read many posts online and suggested system restore. The problem is Windows XP disk cleanup !!! Deletes !!! all restore points.
2.Some suggested i have registry problems.I backed up my registry after i Installed Windows,Drivers and basic Programs.Tried restoring the registry,no luck.
3.Some suggeste my SAM was corrupt and needed replacement, unfourtunatrly i would like to avoid this method since it will delete all my user data and i have a program linked to it and i have ti purchase it again if i do so
4.Even F8 -> Last Known Good Configuration ,get me a BSOD(Blue Screen of Death),but the rest of the modes worked, except for the welcome screen

The Problem - No users

The Problem - Users and Local Groups do exist !!! User dondon,Shadow,WarCry,localgroup Users2 and UserN were just attempts to solve the problem. It just added more registry entries :(

Programs ihave used and tried to fix the problem, including Tweaking.com - Windows Repair (All in One)

Yet i one software gave me somthing strange

If possible,i would like to provide a solution within the next update or why not in this forum.I would rather not re-install my OS,reset SAM or anything that will affect any user accounts. And if at all possible, make a boot cd for Tweaking.com - Windows Repair (All in One),saved me a lot of trouble while on OS and would fiind it very usefull to fix the problems that prevent actual booting of OS.

Boggin:
While I can see you have XP 32bit you haven't said which version.

I've found these ISO downloads from which you can make a bootable disk, although I cannot vouch for them as I don't have a XP machine to try them out on - Shane may have a source for the appropriate ISO but he won't be back until Monday if you want to wait until then.

You can use ImgBurn to create the bootable disk and then do a repair install.

With an original XP CD you can perform a sfc /scannow but I don't think you can get into a bootable ISO to extract the I386 folder.

Here is the info you required. But i doubt it is of any use unless using XP cd which i wanna avoid.I tried to find the my windows version on net and tried to make a bootable USB with Windows and My Drivers, not a custom made OS, and got a big bad virus i removed very hard. You might refer to the windows cd Repair(R).Other solutions i have in mind its hiren's boot cd (HBCD) or ultimate boot cd (UBCD).I tried sfc /scannow,keeps asking me for the CD which i dont posses as i had my OS pre-installed on my laptop,so I recieved no OS cd for it.Tried the OS you suggested,2 didnt even copied with rufus so i used D-Tools,sfc /scannow rejected them all :(.

And about the *.iso file,i refered to a Tweaking.com.iso.That would be great.

Should I use AIDA for more info ?

Boggin:
I don't know if Shane has a portable WR version, but as you can get in via CTRL+ALT+DELETE have you tried a chkdsk /r from the command prompt ?

Rick:
go to device manager; uninstall the display drivers...
* only reboot the machine at this point...

if no luck, search google, download "what changed" and run it.

if no luck, chk msconfig too, often sth their should not be thier,

if no luck, download hijack this too, it useful for this type of things.

XP users in China are using 360, it works quite well actually. probably try this first.

login to http://devid.info and download and run the program to see if drivers need updating, good site and free.

good luck
