Windows Xp - Blank Welcome Screen
Shane:
Wellt he reason the welcome screen is blank is because it isnt seeing any users to list. Just like it didnt show any users in the cmd.exe screen shots you posted.
Yet you where able to log into a user account fine when you did it manually.
So the way the welcome screen and the others work is by pulling the user account info from the windows api or user list. But when you log into windows it doesnt look at that list instead it looks at the sam account information on the system, so thats why it was able to login just fine.
So we need to track down what is keeping that list from being pulled. Do me a fav and grab my tech toolbox,

I have a built in user manager in it that I made that pulls the user account info from the adsi in the system. Let me know if it is able to pull the users or not. If not then I have an idea of where we need to start :-)

Msconfig no use(it a startup manager basically).
Hijack this is just as MBAM.Only that it is specialized in ransomware and Browser Viruses.Instead use Hitman Pro :)
I have all drivers up-to-date because of ASC Driver booster 2.2;
I reinstalled display drivers,nothing happened.
Technican toolbox.Verry cool tools but manage users and windows groups displays no users or groups

Also I noticed another problem with my system i will forward in another topic. If you need i will provide you with a Remote assistence file to see this problem can be worked arround.Of course i will password it and make it expre within 1 day, just to prevent hijacking.

You can post the full chkdsk report from Event Viewer by clicking on Copy/Copy details as text in the lower right pane then right click in the Reply box and select Paste.
The other thing could be related so just post that in this thread.
Shane:
The user information is stored in the registry and the core built in tools dont see them and the API my program calls isnt seeing them either.
chkdsk showed that there was file system errors, if part of the registry was on a messed up section then the registry could be corrupt and would explain what is going on.
I am curious, what happens if you try to add a new user account?
Shane
dondon:
I dont believe its a registry error,i had my registry backed up before this strange thing occured. And if try to add a new account,it will go ghost, and the only way to acces it would be to change the welcome screen to clasic, enter account information, and login and would work. But the account isnt hidden, isnt the orginal user,i unchecked dont show the last user logged on.
Here is the full CHKDSK report. If I schedule on boot it would be blank.
