If you have 7-zip installed I have a reg file I made a while ago that will apply all the compressed files, including zip files, to 7-zip. I can give you that file if you like.

Thanks Shane, I'll get back to you on that as I've upgraded one of my Win 7 laptops to Win 10 to see if that resolves the problem, but haven't gotten around to checking that out yet.

I no longer have 7-Zip installed but I can easily put it back on again.

In the Associated Files bit of Default Programs do you have .zip listed ?

It looks like I'm going to have to take you up your kind offer Shane.

Win 10 doesn't even give you the option to choose Windows to select explorer and MS's apps wants to charge me a little under £4 for one of their programs - if in fact it is a MS program and .zip still doesn't show up in Associate files..

I'll reinstall 7-Zip and wait for you to get back.

EDIT - I've reinstalled 7-Zip and it doesn't even list that as one of the options to open the file with.

I've noticed of the free apps that MS App Store has, is RAR - is this a .zip opener or am I mistaking this for WinRAR ?

Does 7-zip work on a Win 10 system at all ? Does 7zip offer a new Win 10 compatible version ?
