language issue using Windows Services to Default Startup
pitpat:
Hello,
I'm using french WinXP SP3 version and noticed when I make a repair , many windows services set to default startup change from french to english.
I do not mind much , but is it normal ?
Is there a possibility of using this useful repair feature in mother language ?
Thanks
Julian:
interesting is that repair number 3 or repair number 26?
pitpat:
Thanks,
what should I do ideally?
have I to do a backup before , when services are in french language ?
Then uncheck number 26 for try ?
Do the same (and/or?) for number 3 ?
just tried to uncheck number 27 : Set to default startup but I have not thought about number 26
Maybe tweaking.com doesn't found (exemple) "automatic update" as important windows services because there is "mises à jour automatique" , so service is replaced ?
Ps:Sorry for my english
Edit:done a 2nd repair in safe mode without restore before the first repair.
This time I unchecked number 26 and number 27 , strange : "automatic update" service came back again to french language "mise à jour automatique" but a lot of others remain in english , ex "Remote procedure call RPC" ,"Background Intelligent transfer service" , "computer browser",......

- Make a screenshot of what you mean. I do have a hunch of what's going on.
Take e.g. the description of the Services. These are different in different languages (No surprise there). But when one runs Windows Repair on a e.g. French Operating System then the French description is replaced by the english description. And I know why. It's because the descriptions of the Services are hard coded/contained in the registry itself. Windows Repair refreshes the that Service info in the registry and then the description of those Services shows up in English.
Same story when one has run repair # 23: "Repair Associations". Take e.g. the description for "Shortcut". When one runs Windows Repair on your French computer with all repairs #23 ticked then it will replace the French word for "Shortcut" with the english word "Shortcut".
This applies only to Windows XP.
Tell us if the story above is correct ............ I assume it would.
- Solution ? If you know how to use a registry editor (e.g. "REGEDIT.exe") then load the editor with each of the files that come with Windows Repair and replace the english description(s) with the French description(s).
The files that are used by Windows Repair to replace/"repair" the Service info & the file associations can be found in the subfolders called
"......\files\regfiles\file_associations\xp" (File Associations)
"......\files\regfiles\xp" (Service info)
WARNING: Take the usual precautions to avoid a break down of your system. You CAN fatally damage your Operating System.

Thanks
well , I think there are too much services and descriptions to modify .... I will try only on one of them to start (I will use tweaking.com to do a backup before :cheesy:)
First screen : my services.msc where there is a lot off change language services
2nd screen : lines I'm supposed to translate ?
