Newbie: run-time error

I installed your Windows Repair v3.7.0 (Free Version) that was highly recommended by a member in another forum to try to repair an sfc /scannow issue, and it looks like a program that I'll find very useful.

However, when I downloaded, installed, and opened the program I got to Step 2:  Optional > clicked on "Open Repair Reparse Points" icon > "Tweaking Form Controls" box > Run-time error '0' appears,  and the program closes.  Would you help me in getting it to work because I know I have Windows issues on this laptop I'm working on.

Thanks in advance.

Forgot to include some much needed info.

Compaq Presario CQ60-419WM
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
IE 11
Avast Free--latest version and definitions
Windows firewall
all MS updates current
scanned and cleaned--full system scans and all definitions current:
     Malwarebytes Anti-malware
     Spybot S&D
     Superantispyware
     MS Security Essentials
     Windows Defender
     Kaspersky Labs
     Trendmicro Housecall online
     AdwCleaner
     CCleaner
     TweakBit
Services I know are not needed as per Blackviper.com suggestions
Startup entries I know are not needed
I uninstalled all malware scanners, etc. after cleaning so as not to have them fighting amongst each other.

Anything else?  Probably, as I've cleaned her old craw so much in the last few days I can't remember everything.  If I've forgotten anything, just let me know.

Thanks

One way to resolve a runtime error 0 is to uninstall/reinstall the program that is causing it, but not sure which .dll you may have to re-register for the WR program.

Running the program in Safe Mode with Networking will isolate all 3rd party programs, especially AV programs which can block/interfere  - but I notice that you have both Avast Free and MSE installed and while both are relying on Windows Firewall, it's best just to have just one AV program - although Avast Free will run alongside most other AV programs.

Of the two, I'd retain Avast Free for usefulness.

If you opt to retain Avast then run the appropriate uninstaller to ensure all traces are removed.

As you have already run sfc /scannow to produce a CBS log, can you now run SFCFix.exe which is a 3rd party program and copy & paste its report. http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/sfcfix.html

You could still run WR in Safe Mode with Networking after reinstalling to see if it resolves the sfc errors.

MBAM has also been known to produce this runtime error 0, but more for itself than affecting other programs.

Thanks for the reply Boggin.  I appreciate it, but you're way over my head with your suggestions.  I don't have any idea what the term WR program is, what it means to re-register a .dll, etc.

I, indeed, am keeping Avast, and have uninstalled MSE and all the scanning programs I used to do house cleaning with.

I will try to run sfcfix.exe.  Do I type that into an elevated cmd?

Sorry - I tend to abbreviate the Windows Repair program as WR.

SFCFix.exe is a 3rd party program - just click on this link http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/sfcfix.html and use one of the Download@MajorGeeks buttons.

It will open its report with what it can and cannot fix in a Notepad doc.

Right click in the text area then right click again and select Copy then right click in the reply box and select Paste.

It will also put its report in an icon on the Desktop.

The free version of MBAM is a handy program to keep.
