error 800f081f unable to update Windows 7 (SOLVED)

<< < (4/5) > >>

Curtis:
I made a Windows PE disk and a Linux Boot disk with the paragon program.  I was able to see and backup the important files but nothing enabled windows to boot normally.  If you think that it is safe and possible to just upgrade to windows 10, I think that is what I want to do.  I'm assuming that I would just reinstall factory settings and then attempt to upgrade.

Boggin:
If you don't have Win 7 showing as installed then I don't think you will be able to upgrade to Win 10 for free as it requires an activated qualifying version of Windows.

Do the factory reset and then you can upgrade through  https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/windows-10-upgrade although there are other methods to perform the upgrade.

Curtis:
I'll follow your suggestions but I won't be able to work on it until after July 22nd.  I'll let you know.  Thanks.

Boggin:
Don't forget the 29th is the cut off date.

Curtis:
Yes, I'm very aware of the cut off.  Thanks.
As it turns out even though I have 2 different Recovery Disks which I made from the laptop, neither will start the recovery process. Once attempted I get the message that this is "not the correct DVD."  Same thing happens with my Lenovo Startup & System Repair disk that I had made from the laptop.  Also, I have an image backup labeled as a .vhd file, however, when my Recovery Disk accesses the external drive for backup, after a few minutes the message "Cannot find the backup files."  There are several backups on this external drive, however, and the .vhd file is a few layers deep.
Suggestions?
