Desktop can't connect to internet-Local area connection doesnt have a valid ip

<< < (2/4) > >>

mahedi:
can't connect to internet in safe mode with networking.

Boggin:
And are these services showing as Started and Auto or Manual ?

COM+ Event System
Computer Browser
DHCP Client
DNS Client
Network Connections
Network Location Awareness
Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
Server
TCP/IP Netbios helper
Wired Autoconfig is set to manual.
WLAN AutoConfig
Workstation

When you were in Device Manager/View/Show hidden devices were there any yellow alerts, either for Network adapters or Non-Plug and Play Drivers ?

Does Event Viewer record anything for broadband - possibly DHCP ?

Just in case it's the MS Virtual adapter causing problems, run a cmd prompt as an admin and enter -

netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=disallow

shutdown /r /t 00

and see if it connects on the reboot.

You don't need that adapter unless you are using a VPN.

Going back through your opening post, what do you mean by "unplugging the cpu" ?

When drivers fail to load, it can be a sign that the CMOS battery is getting low.

Is your clock showing the correct date and time which would be a tell-tale sign, but change the CMOS battery and see how you get on then.

mahedi:
The clock was ok.
There wasn't any yellow alerts.

Computer browser, network connections, Wired Autoconfig - these are manual.
everything else was automatic.

But here is the thing, I think I have got my connection back.
I have just changed the cable that connects the router and desktop.
I am using the previously used cable for laptop(manually disabling wifi) and a new cable for desktop.

Now, the desktop still has internet connection....for about 40 minutes.

Is it weird? coz the laptop can get internet using the same cable that the desktop can't???

mahedi:
"Now, after complete power reset(unplugging the cpu for some minutes and then switching power button a couple of times and after that plugging the cpu and starting with power) my computer sometimes (let's say 3/5 times approximately )get internet connection for about 10 minutes. Then it loses it again."

by this I meant that I had done:

1. shut down the computer
2. unplugging the power chord.
3. with the power plug unplugged, hit the power button a couple of times.
4. plug the chord back and turning the computer on

If I did this, I could get internet for about 10 minutes back then......

I also want to say thank you for giving your valuable time. I am grateful for that.

Boggin:
At least that is good news :)

What you describe about the CPU is known as a cold boot.

Sometimes the Ethernet cable connector can need a clean, say with a soft wire brush.

Your laptop being newer could probably cope with that, but I'd also have a look at the Ethernet socket on the desktop.

Can you run MiniToolBox again to see if it reports the same problems.

How old is the desktop as CMOS batteries are reckoned to just have a 5-6yr lifespan and drivers not loading properly is a typical symptom of one getting down even if the clock keeps time.
