i GUESS IT IS ONLY THE TERRIBLE FEELING OF NOT BEING IN CONTROL AND NOT KNOW WHAT WAS HAPPENING LAST WEEK WHEN i WAS STRUGGLING JUST TO GET IT TO BOOT SO i COULD USE IT. i MEAN i ONLY MONKEY-FOLLOWED WHAT STACHAN WAS DOING BY GOING BACK TO RESTORE POINTS, THEN RUNNING IOBIT SOFTWARE AND TRYING UPDATES AGAIN UNTIL ALL THE UPDATES WORKED.
Sorry caps, but in a hurry now.
I have rebooted several times now and no problem, except Windows Explorer sometimes takes a long time to bring up programs, but does not happen often. I can live with that.
What else should I do to test if system is good enough to install W10? Thanks in advance. And, thank you, again, so very much for all your help on this issue.
Boggin:
What IObit software have you been running ?
The easiest way to test if the system is good enough is to upgrade.
When you upgrade, Windows creates a Windows.old folder which is everything you had previously installed and is what you can use to revert to Win 7 but I would create a system image to rely on.
When the freebie was properly on offer (2015 - 2016), you had 30 days in which to roll back and then Windows would remove the Windows.old folder.
In the advanced boot options you will see that option to revert to previous build.

Howdy,
I used the free edition of this: http://purchase.iobit.com/en/imf/newinstall.php?name=imf&ver=5.6.0.4462&lan=&to=newgift&ref=ffnewgift&type=free
OK, so I do not understand what it did, but things got fixed it seems.
Yes, I will make a Reflect backup of the good 7 as it stands before going to the 10; in fact I made one already as soon as 7 seemed fix; but, I will get rid of more stuff not needed and then just before upgrading to 10, I will make another.
Boggin:
So what is the free gift ?
FreeCat:
I do not know. I just used the free version. Does three things according to the chart at the bottom of the page.
