hi thanks for your help in this matter tried that and came up with error code in that scan 0x800f0906 told me to go to this link  http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=243077 which I really do not understand as I'm not tech minded ang suggestions will be gratfullyreceived

Was that error for the /restorehealth cmd ?

I think I'd see if a repair install would solve things.

This won't affect your personal stuff or installed programs.

If you don't have an install disk or USB then you can create either after reading the instructions at https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10

That will give you the current version of 1703 15063.0 and the subsequent updates will update that to 15063.540.

When done, with Windows booted up, open Windows Explorer - This PC - insert the media and double click on the drive when the media comes up.

If using a disk, that will start the process but if using an USB, that will open the files where you will need to click on setup Application or you can right click on it and select Run as administrator.

Okay - let us know how you get on.

When the repair has completed, go into System protection to check that it is still turned on and then create a manual restore point.
