W8.1 Freezing

<< < (3/12) > >>

mrwoof:
After sleeping on it, to eliminate a memory fault, I ran mdsched.exe in a preboot environment and no errors found. This process ran for "several minutes". I attch a fresh msinfo32 file to assist in possible diagnosis.

Boggin:
I noticed from your msinfo32 that you have Macrium Reflect - do you have any images you can restore from ?

Your Disk Management shows your partitions to be where they are supposed to be, but I was wondering if after creating a system image whether you could delete the System 400MB partition and reinstate it by one of the methods in this article - https://www.easeus.com/partition-manager-software/system-reserved-partition-recovery.html#part3

The bootrec cmds may be sufficient.

Hopefully with that path removed, it may recognize your C: drive.

I haven't heard back from jpm yet.

mrwoof:
I considered reinstating the Macrium or a Refresh however was concerned that a sys freeze during that process would wreck everything.
I'l check the link you sent but I'm at the edge of my knowledge here. I have a W 8.1 ISO-(feb 18) A disc image file 3.4 Gb on standby !

Boggin:
When you restore with a Macrium image you are booting outside of Windows, so you shouldn't face whatever is corrupted.

Can you go Start - type eventvwr and press enter when it comes up.

When Event Viewer opens, ensure Event Viewer (Local) is highlighted in the left pane - if it isn't, just click on it.

When it has read the data click on Error then on View All Instances of This Event in the lower right pane then look for date and time stamped errors when for when your system froze.

Clicking on any will give a brief reason in the pane below.

If you think any are relevant, click on Copy/Copy details as text in the lower right pane then right click in your reply box and select Paste.

If you have any listed for Critical other than Event ID 41 then post those as well.

The ID 41 is when you will have power shutdown.

mrwoof:
Event viewer threw up the unexpected. Latest repeated entries on 2 fronts.
1. Source Printer service  ID 370
2. Source WMI                       ID   4
I'v attched a raw txt file  with details revealed. The last error listed has scores of entries.

I see the printer errors are a windows "thing" no reference to the suit of Cannon software.
So I stopped & disabled the spooler service to see if any improvement.....nada !

Also attch the DXDiag log as I'm in the company of one who can understand these.
