I must admit that it didn't look right to me either but I had to assume whoever wrote it knew what they were doing - sorry about that.

Hopefully the offboot sfc /scannow will repair any corruption.

You said you deleted those programs - did you use Windows Uninstall ?

That usually leaves residue in the registry so it may have been better to use your restore points prior to installing them, if you have those.

If I had a recovery point (and for some reason it wasn't), I think it would be easier.

That offboot sfc /scannow didn't execute because you hadn't entered it correctly - you had left out the second part of offwindir=C:

Try it again as sfc /scannow /offbootdir=C:\ /offwindir=C:\Windows

My Win 7 although I rarely use it now, used to create restore points whenever I installed anything - does it show as System Protection On

To check that, go Start - right click on Computer - select Properties and click on System protection.
