Help line never replies to email Cannot back up Registry

<< < (13/13)

Hugh Pratt:
Tom

I am very wary of installing on top of existing operating system.

1) Have you done this?
2) Were there any issues?
3) Does it save all my software preferences?

Many thanks for all your help!

Hugh

Boggin:
As I've said, I've been unable to perform it on my Win 7, possibly because I was using an universal disk but I've performed it a number of times on my Win 10 and others have successfully performed a repair install of Win 7 on this forum.

It doesn't affect personal stuff or installed programs and is a recognised repair procedure instead of a clean install when all else fails.

Hugh Pratt:
Dear Tom,

Sorry for the long delay. I am dithering about fixing what is not broke and puzzling over another Registry back up software which works(?).

The issue is that scannow shows errors  - but not sure how fatal these errors are.

Boggin:
After you have performed a sfc /scannow and it reports it is unable to repair all corruption, you can copy & paste this cmd to the prompt which will put an icon onto the desktop which shows what it has and couldn't repair, but if this was my machine then I would have performed a repair install had I been able to.

The only alternative for me as things stand would be to factory reset as it's a branded machine.
