Registry backup problem
Willy2:
- Total CPU of all programs was at ~ 6% (Performance tab in Task Manager(TM)). That went up to about 40 to 50% when RB was busy starting.
- CPU in the "Process" tab in TM went up to 25% for RB.
- It seems this could still be graphics issue because when I run RB under the system account (automatically) then these seems to be no problem.
- After a "Clean boot" RB opened without hesitation. So, one of the other programs "has a row" with RB.
Boggin:
You will need to go back into msconfig and re-enable one item at a time, reboot then see which one is causing the problem then leave it disabled/stopped.
It could be an item in Start-up or one of the non-MS services.
I only have Realtek Audio items enabled in my Start-up.
Willy2:
- It was even worse. Something happened on my Win 7 system and I had re-install Win 7 from scratch. Win 7 has a very good system where one can re-install a new version of Win 7 and keep the old setup in the subfolder c:\Windows.old.
- On top of that I have a copy of all the Win 7 updates & patches stored on a USB external drive.
- Back to Registry Backup: it seems that something in my previous setup/installation caused RB to crash and the delays of the RB GUI appearing. Because with a fresh Win 7 installation RB showed up within seconds. I.ll just add one program at a time and see what program causes this delay & crash.
Boggin:
When you perform a repair install Windows creates the Windows.old folder.
With Win 7 you require a valid product key whereas in Win 10, that digitally activates.
I recently performed a repair install on my other Win 10 laptop but needed cleanmgr to delete that folder as it's sizeable.
Willy2:
- I didn't do a "repair install". I don't know what the proper name is for what I did.
- Yes, I do have a license key. And I prefer that above the Win 10 system. But with Windows 11 coming, I am NOT in a hurry to switch to Windows 10.
- Deleting the folder: I have a program that can change the attributes.
