Hi Shane, I created a new user account and the icons load with the new account so my profile must have been corrupted, this all happened after I downloaded a critical windows update, I could have used system restore but felt that the update was more important what do you think?
Anyway things should be fine now I just have to copy my files to the new account. In the link above that you sent me it says to:
Select all of the files and folders in this folder, except the following files: Ntuser.dat - Ntuser.dat.log - Ntuser.ini
But I only have Ntuser.dat and not the other two could this have been the problem? Thanks for all your help and your software programs.
Shibumi.

General Computer Support / Desktop Icons Disappearing??
« on: March 26, 2012, 08:31:35 pm »
Hi there, as you can see I am a newbie to this forum so I hope Shane or someone can help. The problem is that my Desktop Icons have disappeared leaving only the name of the program showing, all the programs are there only no Icons showing, clicking on the name opens the program.
I down loaded the Windows Club Icon Cache rebuilder, ran the rebuilder and rebooted the system and the Icons returned, only to disappear again at the next reboot. I ran the rebuilder again and the Icons came back only to vanish again at the next reboot.  I then downloaded your Windows Repair (all in one) did everything that was required and exactly the same thing happened the Icon came back and then disappeared again at the next reboot. How do I permanently keep the Icons showing?? and not having to run the rebuilder or Windows Repair after each reboot. Many thanks. Shibumi.

Windows 7 Home Premium SP1.
