Tweaking.com Support & Help / Selective repairs
« on: September 07, 2018, 03:43:38 am »
IMPORTANT - if I can get a reply ASAP.  I want to run Tweaking over the weekend.  Thanks.
Attached is a capture of my repair list with why I don't run default.  Could you tell me if I'm making a mistake by unchecking the ones marked.
Incidentally I'm getting messages about not having permission to perform tasks - though I'm the administrator1 on my one user acct.  l also get messages of not allowing Saves except in the root directory.  Are these the types of things Tweaking would reset/fix?  Thanks

After repair runs, where can I find a report, and information that I need to follow up on?

Tweaking does not open in Safe Mode.  If within the app I click on "Reboot to Safe Mode" it does open.

Thanks for the modify info.  In Run, it shows as Admin, but same result - not populated.  Attached - capture of search.

Using Win 7.  That's the best site I've been working from.  On method #3 I ran into a problem.  Being logged in as a standard user account,it wouldn't allow me to use Resource Monitor - need to have higher "elevation."  That's where I'm stuck.

Sorry, it should be Resource Monitor.

Is there anything in a Tweaking repair that would prevent the Resource Manager from populating?

Tweaking.com Support & Help / Repair Report [SOLVED]
« on: September 06, 2017, 05:35:06 pm »
1. Ran Windows Repair.  Main screen was different than usual.  Did not include "Reboot to Safe Mode."  Is there a difference between All-in-One vs. Windows Repair?

2. Where can I find a complete report on the Repair?  I want to share with MS.  They haven't been able to fix issues.
Thanks.

Thanks again.  I do pc tech work, so I know where things are and what to do with them.
In response:
- I use Bitdefender Total Security 2018.  I scan with CCleaner manually and after the install it cleared a load of Temp files.

- I have 9 apps in Startup, the same number as before the reinstall, with 4 Bitdefender and 2 others in Services.  One thing I have yet to do is pair down unnecessary Services.  Thanks for the link.

- Essentially with the same setup of apps, Services and Startup as before, the o/s runs slower.  System Idle is always around 99%, RAM is rarely over 4 of the 8 GBs, and each process when active uses 1-4 %.  Dell E-6420, 64 bit, Win7 Ultimate.

- I'll pair down the Services.  Bottom line, I'm anxious to run Tweaking with confidence that it will do fixes and not cause more problems.  Comments?

Thanks for getting back to me. I had run Tweaking as I was getting o/s errors.  Then a month ago I took a radical step - backed up data and reinstalled the o/s (Win7).  I've now reinstalled apps and restored data.  The system is running slow, (e.g. :07 to :10 seconds to open an app, browser, or an email) although CPU and RAM are running fine.  I also get messages that an app (e.g. Dashlane or Snagit) stopped running.  Hence I want to run a repair tool (Tweaking), yet want to be cautious not to change or remove needed files.  Hence my initial post.  I'll wait to hear back before running Tweaking.
By the way, it's nice to see good comments and reviews on line  gw

When I ran Tweaking, some of the fixes messed up apps and functions.  Are there some scans/fixes I chould avoid to be on the conservative side?

I don't have Tweaking listed in Start up or msconfig, yet it still shows up in Navigation area.  I'd like to run it only when I choose to.

Thanks Boggin.  You might take a look at Bitdefender.  It's rather impressive.  Thanks again.  End subject.

How about the security suite running?

No particular issue, and I do run it twice during a scan as recommended, however, other than that like once a week, or other suggested intervals?
I just installed Bitdefender (security suite).  Do you suggest that be on or off for Tweaking?

Being that running Tweaking takes a bit of time, is there a recommended period of time between scans to run it?

FYI, I'm on free version.  After a couple successful Tweakings I'll definitely buy Pro; especially with the kind of support you've provided.  Thank you, over and out.

Gotcha, finally.  So, back to my original question of customizing.  I'd uncheck those repairs I don't want to be checked.  For instance uncheck
Repair Icons, because I've customized some, or it might eliminate favicons
Repair Proxy settings as I don't use a proxy
All Windows 8 options, because I'm on Win 7
#26 because I've customized what I want
#27 because I don't want the default
Am I on the right track?  Is there a user manual?
I appreciate your help.
