Hi Shane, I was so pleased to know that sp1 was the reason I could not repair.
It is so frustrating to not be able to figure why repair disc cannot be created.
Thank you for your help.
Peter

Thank you,Shane for replying. I am noot a tech but am trying.
I do not have a disc with sp1 and tried to understand the page you referred me to.
I used to be able to tp F8 and repair would run so should I conclude because I do not have a disc with sp1 that is the reason neither the os disc nor F8 will repair? I have the original os disc.
Also, I used to be able to create a repair disc from the process I outlined in my previous thread but cannot now.
What would be the reason for that?
Thank you
Peter
I will study the page more in the interim.

Hello
Yes, this is my first visit.
Thank you for replying. Tim is one of the owners of Major Geeks and a friend of David in England.
That is where I found your test. Unfortunately it did not fix my issues.
You said to contact you with the results so I am doing that.
Win 7x64, Inspiron R15,  N5010.
1-I cannot perform repair wit either F8 or the OS disc as I used to be able to and as I can with the desktop (Dell xps 8300)..
2-I also cannot create Win 7 repair disc. Start>security, backup my computer,"create repair disc"
Both occured about the same time and it appears as though it may be an OEM -Dell - internal error. from what I read am being told.
I am only an average user and have done all I can.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you
Peter

Hello
As you requested I ran all of the tests in MG that Tin outlined but still have two issues.
Win 7,64 bit,i5,6GB,msie 9, Dell Inspiron 15 R, N5010

1-cannot 'repair' either with F8 or the os disc
2-cannot create repair disc>start, security, backup my computer, "create rescue disc"

My desktop xps 8300 Dell is almost identical and both functions wok.
Until recently the laptop functions worked also.

Have run MBAM, MSE, SFC, DSKCHK, system restore.
I was told this may be OEM internal BIOS problem but I am not techy so do not know and am seeking help here.
Thank you for both your time and the test.
Peter
