Tweaking.com Support & Help / Windows Repair apparently interfering with Windows Update
« Last post by coover on January 07, 2023, 12:08:34 pm »
Two days ago, I decided to run Windows Repair on my Windows 11 Pro Inspiron 3891 for no particular reason, just that I have found it seems to repair problems known to me and unknown to me. When the repair was finished and rebooted, i tried to run Windows Update. I got an error message to try again later, but every time I tried, Update refused to run.

One day later, Yesterday, thinking it's about time to reset Windows, I did so, deleting everything and then reinstalling all applications and other programs. Windows Update ran well and all updates were installed.

This AM, again for no real reason, I decided to run Windows Repair again, setting a restore point prior to repairs and then running the program in the Safe Mode. After running Windows Repair, I, again, tried running Windows Update. Again Update would not run with an error message. I tried several times to run Update and finally decided to go back with Windows Restore.

Windows Restore did restore my computer and Windows Update is working, but now, for the first time ever after using Windows Repair for many years (since Windows XP), I find I cannot trust the application.

I hope somebody at tweaking.com looks into this soon.

I have included a .jpg showing the error I am getting.  While it would be great if you could help me troubleshoot the error, the main reason I am posting in this forum is because I would like you to look very closely at the logs from a run I did with Windows Repair 2021 v4.13.1.  I noticed during the run there were a number of problems.  I did launch the program with a user that has administrator. I also launched it with run as administrator.

General Computer Support / Re: False starts in booting

I noticed that most of the PSU vent holes were clogged with 'lint'/dirt. Once I vacuumed that away, the need for multiple boots stopped.

I have a x32Win10ProV22H2 with 4Gb RAM in a tower desktop. Why would it take 3 or 4 attempts to boot in the morning before running satisfactorily all day ?

Is Windows Repair Free/Pro compatible with Windows 11 if not are there any plans to update it?

Thanks

I swear I'm the poster child for the computer-ly illiterate, so it goes without saying that finding your site was like running into a triage unit for computers. I took advantage of your simple all-in-one for my HP Pavilion Windows 11 and BIPPITY BOPPITY BOO, you magical tech-gods gave me the tools to fix it! ME...THE POSTER CHILD! Was so simple. I just really wanted to express my gratitude. Thank you!

General Computer Support / Turn off autosave but leave on autofill in MS Edge
« Last post by MSRadell on December 11, 2022, 07:56:27 pm »
Microsoft Edge has a feature where it can autofill my personal information whenever a website asks for my name, address, email, etc. This is often very useful, but one thing I find very annoying is that whenever I enter other information than my personal information in a field called "Name", "Address", "Email", etc it automatically saves that information as my personal information.

For example, some websites allow me to search for other people by name, but whenever I write something in the "Name" field, Edge saves the other person's name as my personal info. It doesn't even have to be a field asking for someone's personal info. For example, in PhpMyAdmin, when I enter the name of a table or a column I want to create, Edge saves that as my name. I can manually delete it from the settings, but it's annoying to have to do that each time I enter a name that's not mine somewhere.

So I would like to stop Edge from saving new personal info. My name and email address will probably never change so I will never have to update that, and I don't move very often so I have nothing against updating my address manually in the settings next time I move.

I searched for how to do this, and found a lot of pages like this one that tell me to go to edge://settings/personalinfo and turn off the "Save and fill personal info" checkbox at the top. While this stops the browser from saving personal info as I want, it also stops the browser from suggesting to fill personal info that I already saved.

Is there a way stop Edge from saving new personal info while still allowing it to autofill existing personal info?

General Computer Support / Avoiding loss of mouse cursor
« Last post by Sebastian42 on December 10, 2022, 07:50:09 pm »
My x32Win10ProV22H2 with 4Gb RAM often (daily) loses the mouse cursor, thus requiring a reboot. Event Viewer shows the same sequence of 'alerts' at that time : EventLog (error), Kernel Power (critical), AFD (warning), SNMP (error).  After a reboot, the mouse cursor TENDS to stabilise for hours. How could I prevent the cursor loss?
