conflict
« on: June 20, 2013, 12:09:11 pm »
Hello,

I have had a conflict between Tweaking.com Registry Backup and another startup program for some time and I finally took it upon myself to figure out which one it was.

The problem manifested itself by causing Registry Backup to crash, not every time, but once in a while.

The program that Registry Backup conflicted with is a mouse software program called razerhid.exe.

I fixed the problem by using Winpatrol to delay the startup of razerhid.exe by twenty seconds, since then, no more problem.

Just thought you would like to know.

I use XP SP3, 32 bit.

[added]

This also improved boot up time.

Was it causing the program to crash during backup or after the backup was complete?

Reason why I ask is v1.6.0 and older would backup and then crash when closing itself on some machines, I fixed it in v1.6.1 :-)

Hi,

No, it would crash when the pc was rebooted during times after the auto backup had already been created.

IOW, Registry Backup would crash when it wasn't doing anything at all.

I guess I'm a leftover from Win9x days, I haven't ever gotten over rebooting after program installs, after playing a 3D pc game etc.

Yeah, I agree.

To hear some folks tell it, they hardly ever shutdown or reboot.

BTW, I really like your programs. I haven't had the opportunity to use any except Reg Backup and Compressor, but it's nice to know your others are available if I need them.

Hi again,

I found out something else; if I accidentally right click on the desktop (which usually bring up display context menu) before Windows has completely loaded, it causes Registry Backup to crash.

This has only happened once, but I have the impression that it would happen every time if I right click before all startup programs have loaded.

Just thought you might like to know.

Not sure why the right click would do anything to it as my program doesnt even look at the right click lol.

Is this with v1.6.1?

Is this with v1.6.1?
Yes.

I don't understand it either. The only startup programs I have running are:

AMD Dual Core Optimizer
avgnt
NvCplDaemon
Outpost Monitor
ProcessGovernor
ProcessLasso Management Console
SoundMaxPnP
WinPatrol
xp-AntiSpy Profile Check

and of course

razerhid.exe which is delayed by 20 seconds by WinPatrol

Everything usually gets along swimmingly except when I accidentally right clicked yesterday.

I am at a loss as to why it would crash, unless perhaps there is something that loads on the right click menu, like when it loads icons and such.

I wonder where the program was in the backup when it crashed, such as was it in the middle of copying the files or still waiting for VSS?

Anyways if it happens again let me know

This was another one of those times when I rebooted and Registry Backup wasn't making a backup.

I'm a rebooter, what can I say?

I will let you know if it happens again though.

Thanks a lot!
