Google Chrome Update fails
« on: August 12, 2014, 09:29:08 am »
I have a Google Chrome browser installed on my system , this installation came with the installation of RealPlayer program while I install RealPlayer, so I think there is something AD, my computer keeps shutting down unexpectedly and I want to know what's going on on my system , I honestly doubt about the programs:

1- RealPlayer
2- Google Chrome
3- Media Player classic

I open Google Chrome browser and go to the "About Google Chrome" and noted today that there is an error message and can not be updated Google Chrome browser.

Realplayer gets paid each time they get chrome to install on a users system. Google pays them.

But that version of Chrome should be the normal one, and is normally just fine to run. I have chrome and media player classic and have no trouble with either of them. I dont use real player and I havent for years, I never liked it.

You said you computer shuts down, are you talking about a blue screen? And if so have you ran the "WhoCrashed" program yet? It will scan the crash log and give you an idea of what most likely caused the blue screen.

Do you have your system set to auto reboot if there is a blue screen? If so then you wouldnt see a blue screen and then system would just appear to have restarted.

How to know whether my system is set to auto reboot ? Currently, there is no blue screen, but I still get the unexpected shutdown of Windows? This happens when I run some of the following programs:

1- RealPlayer
2- Google Chrome
3- Media Player classic
4- Comodo Cleaning Essentials
5- Emsisoft Emergency Kit

Some protection programs cause unexpected shutdown of Windows and do not know what is the reason for the problem! So I need help with!

This error code for Google Chrome  3: 0x80040154 -- system level

This error code for windows black screen

Windows did not shut down successfully. If this was due to your system not responding, or if the system was shut down to protect data, you might be able to recover by choosing one of the safe mode configurations from the menu below

Maybe this will help

Event Viewer will have something on those shutdowns but if it just gives Event ID 41 then it isn't much use, but where other services are failing, they will be recorded.

You don't say which OS you are using but generally go Start - type msconfig - press enter and under the Startup tab, after noting any programs already stopped, click on Disable all - Apply - OK then reboot and retry what you were doing.

Does it still shutdown when using IE ?

Did Comodo Cleaning Essentials find a Heuristic for \syswow64\mfc45.dll when you ran it and did you allow it to clean it ?

The steps in this article may resolve the Chrome update error http://techlifeweb.com/how-to-fix-google-chrome-update-error-3-on-windows-7/

Unfortunately Event Viewer have gone, I used several cleaning programs, just like CCleaner, which they had to delete the Event Viewer log file, and everything from my system! I have not done to clean up my system more than 3 months, but yesterday I had to clean up my system because there are some problems!

And my operating system is window 7 ultimate and now I do not need to do msconfig thing, because I have to remove some of the software include Media Player classic
Which I think it's the cause of that problem! http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Media_Player_Classic.htm
Nonetheless, it may be a fake version of the program because of that I looked in Google and found that there is a non-official sites of Media Player classic But these sites, which I found look like they are the official sites of Media Player classic?

Code: [Select]
You aren't using an official MPC-HC build but one from K-Lite. I can't debug it because we don't have the debug info for those.

Please try installing the latest beta version of MPC-HC, choose to reset the settings when installing, try playing an ISO again and report back.
https://trac.mpc-hc.org/ticket/3901

https://trac.mpc-hc.org/   :blank: ?

and no shutdown problem when i using IE but when i play a video using Media Player classic

and i have download from this site http://mpc-hc.org/  is that a fake site ?  :blank:

Download Google Chrome installer from the official website and uninstall and re-install the Google Chrome browser has fixed the problem  :cheesy:  thx Boggin anyway for the link

I was wondering if you had downloaded Chrome from the official site or somewhere like FileHippo as I'd seen people with the same problem and they needed to go back to their download site for any updates - as for some reason they conflicted with the official updates.

http://mpc-hc.org/downloads/ appears to be the official download site for MPC-HC - but I certainly wouldn't use CNET because that's rife with PuPs and anything else that can latch onto their Installer.

Looking at this article http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Media_Player_Classic_Home_Cinema.htm gives a little bit of history and MPC -HC would seem to have been based upon the original (for which I can't find a download link) - but you could give this one a try which may not conflict with whatever you have on your computer http://sourceforge.net/projects/mpcbe/

Yes, I am as usual I download everything from official sites, but some software specifically RealPlayer installer, etc. which requires Internet to download the "Program Files" to the computer! RealPlayer is download and install other programs such as the Google Chrome browser, ask Toolbar and making compromised about it . Thanks for the Other info . I will give it a try. and back to you

Whenever you're downloading and have a Custom option, it always best to use that as you can be sure the normal/Express download will include PuPs.

For the most part unchecking those additional bundled options will stop their inclusion but some of the nastier ones will install anyway.

Chrome can be uninstalled if you don't want it or it's more trouble than it's worth and you certainly don't want the ask.com toolbar.

Yes, as Shane as already said - you can't install 64 bit programs onto a 32 bit OS - but the program download site usually lists the requirements for what the program is applicable to.

No, that is because you downloaded the MPC-HC 64-bit (x64) when you should have downloaded MPC-HC 32-bit (x86)

They offer both, you choose which to download

The one I suggested as an alternative to MPC-HC (MPCBE) was listed as a 32 bit but on its download site only offers a 64 bit version - sorry for that.

To atone, here is a list of 21 free alternatives you could look at, but as for MPC-HC - ensure you opt for the 32 bit version where separate versions are required for 32 or 64 bit and choose the Custom install when offered.  http://www.ezvid.com/21-best-video-editing-software-for-free-download

While it says "free download" that may not mean they are all free for their full facilities so you'll need to be wary of that.
