12 win 8.1 update files not on machine
« on: August 09, 2015, 02:51:24 pm »
On May 4 2015 my 2015 dell Inspiron 15 3000 series was doing an update & I left the room & came back to see my grandchild pushing buttons & who knows what else? Since that time I have tried 5-6 times & 12 hours sat.(8/8/15)to repair this thing.
What I have found so far is that there are 12 missing update files and it (tweeking)says until I replace those files my lap top will not work properly. :-(
This is the 1st missing file
C:\windows\servicing\packages\package_1_forKB2971850~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~6.3.1.2cat
the 2nd missing file is
XXall the same exceptXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.mum
If some one knows where to find & how to install these files I might have a usable laptop again
These are some of the problems
Google chrome email no new mail since May 4th 2015
When I open control panel I get the very top row of print and a blank page. When this happens the only way to get out is to reboot.
touch screen when swiping in from right icons show up but will not shut machine off.
please help
Thank You
Harold

It's unfortunate that you didn't ask for help when this first started as using your restore points to before the updates could have resolved it.

However, either Julian or Shane may be able to upload those files for you when they get back, probably on Monday.

Have you ran the repairs in my windows repair tool yet? If not have the program reboot you into safe mode, then run the program in safe mode, have it do a registry backup first and then have it do all the repairs.

Once done reboot and go see how windows updates does :-)

OK good, wanted to make sure you ran all the repairs :-)

In the program go the pre-scan again and when it is done save the pre-scan to a txt file and post it for me.

12 Combined Problems were found with the packages files, these files need to be replaced (These mainly only effect installing Windows Updates.)
The SFC (System File Checker) doesn't scan and replace some of these files, so you may need to replace them manually.

THESE FILES DO NOT KEEP THE REPAIRS FROM WORKING; YOU MAY STILL RUN THE REPAIRS IN THE PROGRAM.

If you need help in replacing these files, post on the Forums at Tweaking.com for help.

First grab the zip file off this page and apply the reg file it in to add the take owner ship to the right click menu in explorer.
http://www.tweaking.com/articles/pages/add_quottake_ownershipquot_to_right_click_menu_in_vista_amp_7,1.html

Once that is done go to C:\Windows\servicing\ and right click on Packages and click on take ownership. You will now be able to copy the files into that folder.

I have attached the missing files, extract the files out of the attached zip file and put them in the C:\Windows\servicing\Packages\ folder.

Then run my pre-scan again, put a check on the box to have it add the cat files back to the database.

Upgraded to pro & ran it 2 times. When I hit the windows key and the X key then click on the Control Panel I get the control panel page but nothing is in it and I can not X out of the page ? None of the controls on the page work.
When I swipe down the page collapses and can not be seen & if I click on other desktop icons they work. The only way I have found to get rid of the Control Panel page is to reboot.
When in your accounts the page stays blue with the timer circle just going round & round
when trying to open pictures I get no pictures & the timer just keeps scrolling across the top of the page.
After your help Mon. things are MUCH better!
Also May I use the same Key Code for both my Lap Top & Desk Top,  ?

I just updated to v3.4.2 so make sure to grab it and try that version, I made a lot of changes that should make things even better.

Sure can, it is a per user license, so as long as it is for you then you can use it all you like :-)

Ran with the newest version...no help & a new problem?
On both the Laptop & the PC, G-mail Chrome has stopped responding? I get no new E-mail`s, regular G-mail works. When clicking on a button(in any E-mail) nothing happens & if I right click it it says "COPY".
   from 8/12/15-
When I hit the windows key and the X key then click on the Control Panel I get the control panel page but nothing is in it and I can not X out of the page ? None of the controls on the page work.
When I swipe down the page collapses and can not be seen & if I click on other desktop icons they work. If I go to the start page and click desktop control panel comes up again still not working. The only way I have found to get rid of the Control Panel page is to reboot.

I had purchased a training program that hat 8 videos in it that I had downloaded to my desktop. I can get to the point where I click on the arrow pointing to the right and the video box goes white and does not work?

I won`t quit if you wont ! Thank you for your help!

Thats odd, I didnt have any of that happen in all the tests I did.

Try running the repairs a 2nd time and in safe mode, sometimes something can mess with them during the first run. Also if running them a 2nd time doesnt fix it, then restore the registry from before the repairs and let me know if that fixes it. If it does then that means it is a permissions problem and something didnt go right.

Let me know the results :-)

That sint normal at all.

Open my windows repair and go to the Step 3 tab.

On that tab click on the 2nd button which says "Open Check Disk At Next Boot"
When that opens put the choice on /R and then click the add to next boot.

Then restart the computer and the chkdsk will start before windows does. This scan will take a while. Once it is done the system will reboot back into windows. Then I want you to post the results of the chkdsk.

Here is instructions on how to find the chkdsk log
