Solved Right-click not working in XP SP3
« on: October 15, 2015, 04:42:20 am »
I have an internittent fault in XP SP3, which means I cannot bring up the right-click menu when I click on any file or folder.

When the menu list doesn't show I get this message:

Application popup: Explorer.EXE - Entry Point Not Found : The procedure entry point GetNamedPipeServerProcessId could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll.

Also, If I double-click my main browser, Firefox, I get a message that states:

Cannot load XPCOM

I have run SFC and that didn't fix the problem.

I have also used Windows Repair in Safe Mode and despite running it twice I still have the same issues.

Malware scans with MBAM and EEK reveal no infection and my resisdent real-time antivrus Avira has found nothing. However, HMP has identified one threat, which has only shown up since running Windows Repair. I quarantined the threat but when I rebooted my PC HMP discovered it again!

I have no idea if it is a false +ve or not. Here is the file path:

HKLM\ system\current control set\services\Winsock2\ parameters\Protocol;_Catalog9

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

I have solved both issues: the right-click problem was caused by Dropbox
Installing the latest version was the simple solution.
The XPCOM message that happened when attempting to launch Firefox was sorted out by deleting the Firefox folder under Program Files and then installing FF 41.0.1.

Hi, hohum
Please go to your first thread. There you select modify , which will be available for editing for the thread owner. Just add Solved to the left of your thread subject. Then click save. It will be shown in the computer help as solved.
The Bottom line is "Check your hardware first if it supports the task you try".
