Windows 10 Won't Update
« on: February 03, 2019, 01:40:19 pm »
I ran the tweaks and no matter what google says my Windows 10 does not update. I did an image restore etc. 2019-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1809 for x64-based Systems (KB4480116) - Error 0x800f0986 & this update does the same: 2019-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1809 for x64-based Systems (KB4476976) - Error 0x800f0986

What do I do? Reinstall Windows? Is it a problem with the update? I have never had this issue before. Thank you for helping me.

These commands can help with Windows Update problems.

Open a Command Prompt (Admin) or Powershell (Admin) and enter these cmds - each will take a while to run and then try the update again.

Let us know if the sfc /scannow reports it is unable to repair some files.

dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

sfc /scannow

exit (to close the cmd window)

If the update still fails then run through the Windows 10 troubleshooting steps in https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/10164/fix-windows-update-errors

If you are still having problems, use the creation tool to make a bootable USB drive (16 Gb minimum) with the latest 1809 version on it, then use Windows Explorer to view the file contents of that USB drive; right-click on the setup.exe file and choose "Run as administrator".  If that also fails (with the same or a different error message), reboot and try it again by the self-initiating process; if that also fails, taking the image to some point even further back may be required.

Ya. I just resintalled Windows and it fixed it. I used the usb creation tool to reinstall it and ran setup.exe on the usb stick.
